Crypto Exchange Fees Compared 2026: Spot vs Futures, Which Is Actually Cheaper?

Spot and futures maker/taker fees for Binance, OKX, Bybit, Gate.io and Bitget, before and after the referral discount. Tables and text are filled in from one source, so they always agree.

For major centralized exchanges, the default spot tier is typically 0.1%. You can reduce the effective cost further by using a rebate sign-up link, reaching a higher-volume VIP tier, or enabling exchange-token discounts such as BNB where supported.

Default fees (VIP 0); qualifying trading volume unlocks lower VIP fees automatically.

Fees as of October 13, 2026, recomputed from each venue's public fee schedule every time this page is served โ€” not hard-coded.

Availability differs by venue (Binance, for example, is restricted in the US and Hong Kong). Check what is available for a given country: https://www.coinrebate.vip/api/v4/agent-route?country=XX&fees=true

A referral code has to be entered at signup. Adding one afterwards: Binance has only three official rebind channels and the conditions are strict, Bybit allows it within 14 days of signup, OKX generally does not (the one exception is a dormant-account recall after 180 days of no activity), Gate does not allow it. Do not close and reopen an account to get a rebate โ€” every venue prohibits it and will revoke rebate eligibility.

What Do Your Trading Fees Actually Cost You in 2026?

Rates as of October 13, 2026. At a $50,000 monthly volume, every 0.01 percentage point of fee is $5 a month, or $60 a year. That is not market volatility; it is a fixed cost you can control.

This guide lays out the standard (non-VIP) spot and futures fees of Binance, OKX, Bybit, Gate.io and Bitget, shows what each exchange costs after the CoinRebate referral discount, and explains where VIP tiers and platform-token discounts fit in. Every rate on this page is filled in from the same source our comparison tools use, so the tables and the text stay in step.

Spot Trading Fees

Spot trading has a maker fee and a taker fee. A maker order rests in the order book and adds liquidity. A taker order fills immediately and removes liquidity. Standard rates for non-VIP users:

ExchangeStandard MakerStandard TakerCoinRebate discountTaker after discount
Binance0.1%0.1%20% (code COINREBATE)0.08%
OKX0.1%0.15%20%0.12%
Bybit0.1%0.1%33%0.067%
Gate.io0.1%0.1%20%0.08%
Bitget0.1%0.1%20%0.08%

Key Takeaway: Compare the last column, not the first columns. Standard spot rates sit close to each other. For a new account, the size of the referral discount is what separates these exchanges, and the last column already includes it.

Futures Fees

Perpetual futures carry lower percentage fees than spot. They are charged on the full leveraged position size, and active traders pay them far more often. Standard USDT-margined perpetual rates:

ExchangeStandard MakerStandard TakerCoinRebate discountTaker after discount
Binance0.02%0.05%20% (code COINREBATE)0.04%
OKX0.02%0.05%20%0.04%
Bybit0.02%0.055%33%0.03685%
Gate.io0.02%0.05%20%0.04%
Bitget0.02%0.06%20%0.048%

Key Takeaway: After the referral discount these exchanges sit within a narrow band. At that point a gap of 0.005 percentage points is $2.50 a month on $50,000 of volume, so liquidity, execution quality and the products you need matter as much as the headline rate.

VIP Tiers and Platform-Token Discounts

All of these exchanges lower fees as your 30-day trading volume or your holdings grow. Thresholds and rates change often, so check the official fee page of each exchange rather than a table on any other website, including this page.

Platform tokens are a separate lever. On Binance, paying fees in BNB takes 25% off spot fees but only 10% off USDT-margined futures fees. Those are different numbers, and mixing them up overstates the saving on futures. Bitget and Gate.io offer their own reductions for paying fees in BGB and GT.

How the Referral Discount Stacks With Everything Else

A referral discount is a percentage of the fee you actually pay. It applies on top of whatever rate you have, standard or VIP. It does not replace that rate.

Example with Binance spot at the standard rate: 0.1% becomes 0.08% with code COINREBATE. If you later reach a VIP tier, the same percentage comes off the lower VIP rate. Discounts multiply, they do not add: 20% off followed by 25% off leaves 60% of the fee, not 55%.

A Worked Example: $50,000 a Month in Futures, Mostly Taker

At this volume each 0.01 percentage point of fee is $5 a month.

  • Binance: 0.05% standard, 0.04% with code COINREBATE.
  • OKX: 0.05% standard, 0.04% through the CoinRebate link.
  • Bybit: 0.055% standard, 0.03685% through the CoinRebate link.
  • Gate.io: 0.05% standard, 0.04% through the CoinRebate link.
  • Bitget: 0.06% standard, 0.048% through the CoinRebate link.

Multiply the rate by your own volume to get your monthly cost. The difference between the numbers on each line is the part you control: same exchange, same liquidity, same trade.

Which Exchange Fits Which Trader

  • The high-frequency futures trader: Every basis point counts. Start from the "Taker after discount" column in the futures table, then weigh liquidity and execution speed. A cheaper fee does not help if the fill is worse.
  • The spot market maker: You provide liquidity, so the maker column is yours. Standard maker rates are close across these exchanges; the referral discount and any platform-token discount decide the rest.
  • The casual trader: You want a good rate without chasing VIP tiers. A referral discount applies from your first trade and needs no volume commitment. The discount column shows what each exchange gives.
  • The holder who trades occasionally: Paying fees in the platform token (BNB on Binance, BGB on Bitget, GT on Gate.io) lowers your rate without any trading volume requirement.
  • The trader who uses several exchanges: Take the referral discount on each of them. Our Exchange Comparison page shows the current rates side by side.

Before any of this, check that the exchange is available where you live. Our exchange list only shows the exchanges whose own terms allow your country.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: Do "zero-fee" spot promotions actually save money? Sometimes. These promotions usually cover only specific pairs. If you have to move in and out of those pairs through standard-fee markets, count the whole round trip before deciding.

Q2: How often do exchanges change their fee schedules? Rarely, but it happens. We record the rates of each exchange every day and correct this page when they change. The date at the top shows which rates it uses.

Q3: Are funding fees in perpetual futures "trading fees"? No. Funding payments pass between long and short traders to keep the perpetual price close to the spot index. The exchange does not collect them. They can be a cost or an income depending on your side, and on long holds they can outweigh trading fees.

Q4: Which is cheaper for frequent trading, spot or futures? Futures, in percentage terms. On Binance, standard futures fees are 0.02% maker and 0.05% taker, against 0.1% and 0.1% for spot. Remember that perpetual futures also carry funding payments (see the funding question above) and liquidation risk.

Q5: I use a trading bot. How do I apply a referral discount? Discounts are applied at the account level, not the API level. If the account was opened through a referral link, every order your bot places gets the discount automatically. If your account already exists, do not open another account just for the discount, because that can breach the exchange's terms. Bybit and Binance each have an official process for adding a referral to an existing account under specific conditions. Our rebate check page explains what is possible for your account.

Q6: Does CoinRebate hold my money? No. You register, verify your identity and trade on the exchange itself, and the exchange applies the discount to your account under its own referral program. CoinRebate never holds funds and has no withdrawal feature. We earn a commission from the exchange when you trade. That is how this site is paid for, and it does not raise your fee.

Fees are the part of trading you can decide in advance. Check the tables above, check that the exchange serves your country, and take the referral discount when you open the account, because adding it later is possible only on some exchanges and under conditions.
