BTCUSDT closed this week up 6.3%, moving from 76805 USDT to 81640.6 USDT. September 18 alone added 5.86%, the single day that carried most of the week's gain. News that a South Korean petition to delay crypto taxation by two years reached the review threshold circulated on the Square, and placed next to that daily candle, sentiment clearly reacted.
How the daily candles actually looked
| Date | open | close | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026-09-12 | 77191.1 USDT | 77242.8 USDT | 0.07% |
| 2026-09-13 | 77242.8 USDT | 76805 USDT | -0.57% |
| 2026-09-14 | 76805 USDT | 78153.3 USDT | 1.76% |
| 2026-09-15 | 78153 USDT | 75599.9 USDT | -3.27% |
| 2026-09-16 | 75599.9 USDT | 76174.6 USDT | 0.76% |
| 2026-09-17 | 76174.6 USDT | 76385.9 USDT | 0.28% |
| 2026-09-18 | 76385.8 USDT | 80863 USDT | 5.86% |
| 2026-09-19 | 80863 USDT | 81640.6 USDT | 0.96% |
Only three days deserve discussion. September 15 fell 3.27%, from 78153 USDT to 75599.9 USDT, the ugliest candle of the week, coming right after September 14 rose 1.76% to close at 78153.3 USDT. September 18 rose 5.86%, pulling from 76385.8 USDT straight to 80863 USDT, recovering the September 15 drop and then some. September 19 added 0.96% to close at 81640.6 USDT, above the September 14 high.
September 16 and September 17 rose 0.76% and 0.28%, small moves that look like waiting for direction. The week's structure: one down day, two sideways days, then one large candle that flipped sentiment. In that shape, neither chasers nor dip-buyers feel comfortable, because the real gain sat in a single day while the rest ground sideways.
Where this week sits in 200 weekly samples
BTCUSDT has 200 weekly samples, and 36 weeks were stronger than this one. This week's 6.3% is on the strong side but not extreme; 36 weeks came before it.
| Stronger week | open | close | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2023-03-13 | 21986.2 USDT | 27955.7 USDT | 27.15% |
| 2026-08-17 | 62876 USDT | 77719.1 USDT | 23.61% |
| 2024-02-26 | 51764.9 USDT | 63178.5 USDT | 22.05% |
| 2023-01-09 | 17124.6 USDT | 20882.7 USDT | 21.95% |
| 2024-11-04 | 68762.5 USDT | 80410 USDT | 16.94% |
The leaders are far ahead. The week of 2023-03-13 ran from 21986.2 USDT to 27955.7 USDT, up 27.15%; 2026-08-17 ran from 62876 USDT to 77719.1 USDT, up 23.61%; 2024-02-26 ran from 51764.9 USDT to 63178.5 USDT, up 22.05%; 2023-01-09 ran from 17124.6 USDT to 20882.7 USDT, up 21.95%; 2024-11-04 ran from 68762.5 USDT to 80410 USDT, up 16.94%.
Further down, 2023-06-19 rose 15.68%, 2023-10-23 rose 15.17%, 2024-02-05 rose 13.47%, 2024-07-15 rose 12.13%, 2024-11-11 rose 11.8%, and 2023-02-13 rose 11.46%. All stronger than this week, but not by the margin of the top group. At 6.3%, this week lands in the upper part of the sample, still short of the very best.
What the hot posts on the Square say
Hot posts on the Square argue that the South Korean petition to delay crypto taxation by two years reaching the review threshold is a mildly positive signal for crypto sentiment (relayed, not this site's view). News like this changes no on-chain data and no platform rule; what it changes is how participants expect regulation to develop.
Another voice in those posts ties the news directly to BTCUSDT, calling the 5.86% candle on September 18 proof that sentiment ignited. That reads smoothly but is hard to verify, since other factors may have been at work the same day. Treating the news as the sole cause of a move leaves you without a next reason once the news cools.
The safer reading: the news supplies context, the price supplies a separate fact, and the two can sit side by side without proving each other. This week's 6.3% and the 36 stronger weeks are checkable; where the petition goes after the review threshold has no answer yet.
Three things easy to overlook
First, gaps and large single-day candles amplify emotion. The September 18 move from 76385.8 USDT to 80863 USDT absorbed several sideways days at once, and anyone who decided to enter after seeing that candle paid a cost well above those who bought near the September 15 low. A good daily chart does not mean every position looks good.
Second, high leverage suffers most in this structure. The 3.27% drop on September 15 was enough to force out heavy positions; the 5.86% gain on September 18 was enough to hurt the other side just as badly. Two violent moves in opposite directions inside one week mean leverage magnifies more than the upside.
Third, funding rates and the fact that the best week is a conclusion in hindsight belong together. This week's 6.3% only existed after the close, and nobody mid-week knew where Friday would settle. Treating a finished week as a repeatable template is the most common misread.
How the fees work out
Binance futures default maker fee is 0.02%, and default taker fee is 0.05%. The rebate ratio is 20%, so after the rebate the effective maker fee is 0.016% and the effective taker fee is 0.04%.
Read together, taker cost is several times maker cost, so accounts that take liquidity often will see friction widen in a week that swings both ways. Fees do not set direction, but they set how much movement a given judgment must produce to cover cost.
