BTCUSDT moved from 84433 USDT to 85387.4 USDT this week, a gain of 1.13%. At the same time, discussion circulated about the IMF funding El Salvador and exempting excess BTC purchases, which brought the sovereign adoption narrative back into view. The two things together are worth reading side by side: the price reaction was small, but the story regained attention. This piece does one thing only, laying out the daily candles, where this week sits among 200 weekly samples, and what the discussion is actually claiming.

What each day actually did

Here are the daily candles. Every row comes from the Binance exchange interface, with open and close copied exactly as published and no conversion applied.

2026-10-0384482.784710.60.27%
2026-10-0484710.585387.40.8%

Only three days deserve separate mention. On 2026-09-28 the price fell from 84433 USDT to 83461 USDT, down 1.15%, the only meaningful down candle of the week and where the weekly low sits. On 2026-10-01 it rose from 83576.8 USDT to 84829.6 USDT, up 1.5%, erasing the prior day's decline in one move. On 2026-10-04 it closed at 85387.4 USDT from 84710.5 USDT, up 0.8%, setting the weekly high. Every other day stayed within 0.41% in either direction.

Read as a sequence, the shape is clear: one down day, one day to recover it, three flat days, then two days of slow lifting. That is not a news-driven spike. The talk about the IMF and El Salvador ran through these days, yet no gap or outsized candle appears on the daily chart. The price moved on its own.

Where this week ranks among 200 weekly samples

The weekly sample for BTCUSDT contains 200 weeks, and 79 of them were stronger than this one. A gain of 1.13% sits in the middle-to-lower part of the sample. It is not a strong week, let alone a historic one.

Stronger weekopen (USDT)close (USDT)Change
2023-01-0917124.620882.721.95%
2023-03-1321986.227955.727.15%

2026-08-176287677719.123.61%
2026-09-218114484432.94.05%

A few comparisons make the gap concrete. The week of 2023-03-13 ran from 21986.2 USDT to 27955.7 USDT, up 27.15%, among the strongest in the sample. The week of 2026-08-17 ran from 62876 USDT to 77719.1 USDT, up 23.61%, the most recent large up week. The week of 2024-02-26 ran from 51764.9 USDT to 63178.5 USDT, up 22.05%. The week of 2023-01-09 ran from 17124.6 USDT to 20882.7 USDT, up 21.95%. All four cleared 20%, far above this week's 1.13%.

Closer in, the week of 2026-09-14 ran from 76805 USDT to 81143.9 USDT, up 5.65%, and the week of 2026-09-21 ran from 81144 USDT to 84432.9 USDT, up 4.05%. This week's 1.13% is lower than both, and it is the third consecutive up week. The gains are narrowing week by week, not widening. That detail carries more information than the 1.13% alone.

Trending posts on the Square argue that the IMF funding El Salvador and exempting excess BTC purchases means sovereign-level Bitcoin adoption was not blocked by international institutions, but effectively tolerated (relayed, not the site's view). The usual chain of reasoning is that if one country can keep BTC in reserve, others will watch, and if adoption spreads, long-term demand gains a new source.

Other posts focus on the word exemption, arguing the shift in stance matters more than the funding itself. Some also caution that narrative is narrative and the tape is the tape, noting that BTCUSDT rose only 1.13% this week, which suggests the market did not reprice on the news.

My read is that the sovereign adoption thread has been told repeatedly over the years, and each time it brings a stretch of sentiment. Whether it becomes sustained buying depends on a second or third country following. A single headline does not change where the weekly sits, and this week does not rank near the top of the sample.

Three things that get overlooked

Gaps first. This week's BTCUSDT daily candles left no obvious gap. The decline on 2026-09-28 and the rebound on 2026-10-01 were continuous, not gap opens in either direction. That means no single open set the tone for the week. Treating this kind of grind as a news reaction tends to overstate the headline.

Leverage second. Perpetual contracts amplify positions, and the same 1.13% weekly move feels entirely different at high leverage. Getting the direction right feels fine; getting it wrong can mean a forced liquidation within the week. In a narrow, grinding range, high leverage is the easiest way to get hit from both sides.

Funding third. Perpetuals use funding payments to keep price anchored near spot, with longs and shorts paying each other on a schedule. In a sideways market, funding slowly eats into holding costs. Many people watch the candles and forget this line item.

One more thing deserves saying plainly: the best week is a conclusion reached in hindsight. The week of 2026-08-17 gained 23.61%, and nobody knew that in advance. This week gained 1.13%, and nobody knows what next week holds. Ranking finished weekly candles is review, not forecast. The IMF and El Salvador headline is not a direction signal either.

How the fee tier works out

The default maker fee on Binance contracts is 0.02%, and the default taker fee is 0.05%. With a 20% rebate applied, the effective maker fee is 0.016% and the effective taker fee is 0.04%.

Seen together, the spread between maker and taker is real. Opening and closing at maker versus taker costs different amounts, and the more frequently you trade, the more that difference accumulates.

In a week like this one, with a 1.13% move and a grinding daily chart, fees matter more. If the direction is wrong, fees are an extra cut. If the direction is right, fees still shave part of the result.
