10-Year Treasury Yield Nears 5%: SPY Up Just 0.18% This Week, TMF at 29.17

With the US 10-year Treasury yield nearing 5%, the reviewed Binance pairs split rather than falling together this week. SPYUSDT rose 0.18% for the week, QQQUSDT rose 0.03%, TMFUSDT fell 0.07%, and BTCDOMUSDT fell 0.43%. Two closed slightly higher and two slightly lower, but the directions separated: the equity index side held a small gain while the long-duration bond side kept grinding lower. For anyone reading risk assets through the yield, the point is not the size of the move but where each pair found resistance.

How Each Day Actually Traded

Laying out the daily bars from 2026-09-07 to 2026-09-14 makes the rhythm clearer than the weekly number.

Three days stand out. 2026-09-10 carried the heaviest pressure: QQQUSDT fell from 717.04 to 707.67, down 1.31%; TMFUSDT fell from 30.2 to 29.22, down 3.25%; SPYUSDT fell from 763.84 to 758.25, down 0.73%. On the same day BTCDOMUSDT moved from 5252 to 5264.5, up 0.24%, the opposite direction. 2026-09-11 was the bounce: SPYUSDT went from 758.25 back to 765.32, up 0.93%; QQQUSDT from 707.67 to 715.45, up 1.1%; TMFUSDT only from 29.22 to 29.38, up 0.55%, the weakest rebound. 2026-09-13 pushed the equity side back down, SPYUSDT from 765.83 to 760.69, down 0.67%; QQQUSDT from 714.78 to 707.54, down 1.01%. Taken together, the yield near 5% showed up as repeated chop in equities and a steady slide in the long-duration bond side rather than a single sharp drop.

Where This Week Ranks

SPYUSDT has a 24-week sample, and 15 weeks were stronger than this one. Among those, the week of 2026-04-13 rose from 679.19 to 709.38, up 4.45%; the week of 2026-04-06 rose from 658.3 to 679.19, up 3.17%; the week of 2026-08-03 rose from 750.48 to 771.08, up 2.74%. This week's 0.18% sits clearly below those three.

QQQUSDT also has a 24-week sample, with 13 weeks stronger than this one. The week of 2026-04-13 rose from 610.63 to 647.62, up 6.06%; the week of 2026-05-04 rose from 674.17 to 710.06, up 5.32%; the week of 2026-08-03 rose from 693.7 to 721.84, up 4.06%. This week's 0.03% is nearly negligible next to those.

TMFUSDT has only an 8-week sample, with 2 weeks stronger than this one: the week of 2026-08-24 rose from 30.53 to 31.42, up 2.92%; the week of 2026-08-03 rose from 30.79 to 31.48, up 2.24%. This week's -0.07% belongs to the downward group.

BTCDOMUSDT has the longest sample, with 135 of 200 weeks stronger than this one. The week of 2023-03-13 rose from 1440.2 to 1647.9, up 14.42%; the week of 2025-04-07 rose from 4641.8 to 5191.1, up 11.83%; the week of 2024-01-01 rose from 2034.3 to 2265.7, up 11.37%. This week's -0.43% ranks behind those.

Trending posts on the Square argue that the US 10-year Treasury yield nearing 5% keeps pressuring risk asset valuations, that equity index bounces are short-term repairs rather than trend reversals, and that long-duration bond products face clearer headwinds when yields rise (paraphrased, not this site's view). Other trending posts focus on the divergence, arguing that equity indices and crypto-related indices moving in opposite directions in the same week means capital is rotating between pairs rather than leaving outright (paraphrased, not this site's view). Some trending posts warn that when the yield approaches a key level, daily bounces are easily interrupted by later data, so chasing strength needs more caution (paraphrased, not this site's view). All of these point to the same observation: this week's four weekly changes were all small, but the internal rhythm differed enough that watching one pair alone can mislead.

Three Blunt Points

Gaps showed up directly this week. The 2026-09-11 bounce pulled SPYUSDT from 758.25 back to 765.32, but 2026-09-13 dropped it to 760.69, and the prior day's gain did not hold. TMFUSDT closed at 29.39 on 2026-09-12, the same as its 29.39 open, a 0% change, and that calm was followed by a drop to 29.18 on 2026-09-13, showing that quiet in a weak trend is not a turn.

High leverage is especially costly this week. Daily ranges on all four pairs were not large, but direction flipped back and forth: between 2026-09-10 and 2026-09-11, QQQUSDT fell 1.31% then rose 1.1%, and TMFUSDT fell 3.25% then rose 0.55%, so one mistimed step has to be paid for with later volatility. Funding costs drain continuously in choppy, repeated conditions, and when the weekly change is only 0.18% or 0.03%, holding costs clearly eat into an already thin margin.

The best week is a conclusion reached in hindsight. The week of 2026-04-13 saw SPYUSDT rise 4.45% and QQQUSDT rise 6.06%, but nobody knew at the time it was a strong week in the sample; this week's 0.18% and 0.03% rank behind 15 and 13 weeks in their 24-week samples, looking plain afterward but just another yield-pressured week beforehand.

How Fees Work Out

The Binance futures default maker fee is 0.02%, and the default taker fee is 0.05%. The rebate ratio is 20%, leaving an effective maker fee of 0.016% and an effective taker fee of 0.04% after the rebate. With SPYUSDT and QQQUSDT up only 0.18% and 0.03% for the week, fee levels matter more in such narrow ranges.
