When word spread that US Bancorp completed a Stellar cross-border payment pilot, XLMUSDT was already climbing off a low base. Binance API data shows XLMUSDT opened the week at 0.17698 USDT and last closed at 0.1947 USDT, a weekly move of 10.01%. It rose 8.24% on 14 September and another 1.63% on 15 September, recovering most of the losses from the first three sessions. For anyone watching XLM, the point is not the size of the gain but that the week pushed the contract back above its weekly open and attached a real institution's name to the Stellar payments story.

Seven days, with the move packed into the last two

Laying out the daily candles from 8 September to 15 September makes the rhythm clear: three down days, two small bounces, then two strong sessions.

10 September was the low: open 0.18101 USDT, close 0.17452 USDT, down 3.59%, dragging the price from 0.19357 USDT on 8 September down to 0.17452 USDT. Two small gains followed, 2.1% and 0.95%, but 13 September fell 1.61% to 0.17699 USDT, so the contract still looked weak. The turn came on 14 September, open 0.17698 USDT and close 0.19157 USDT, up 8.24% in a single session and above every close of the prior six days. On 15 September it opened at 0.19158 USDT and closed at 0.1947 USDT, up 1.63%, fixing the weekly gain at 10.01%.

XLMUSDT is a crypto USDT-margined perpetual contract on Binance, listed on 2020-01-20, so it has a long trading history and this week's move is not extreme in context. What stands out is that three days of losses were erased in two sessions, a structure that usually points to news concentrating around 14 September rather than steady accumulation.

2026-08-170.15626 USDT0.19989 USDT27.92%

The largest two came in November 2024: the week of 2024-11-11 rose 81.31% from 0.10841 USDT to 0.19656 USDT, and the week of 2024-11-18 rose 172.64% from 0.19656 USDT to 0.5359 USDT. The week of 2025-07-07 rose 87.9% from 0.25031 USDT to 0.47032 USDT, and the week of 2026-05-25 rose 76.06% from 0.14745 USDT to 0.2596 USDT. The nearest stronger week was 2026-08-17, up 27.92% from 0.15626 USDT to 0.19989 USDT.

Placed in that table, this week's 10.01% sits in the milder range. The week of 2024-08-05 rose 10.88% and the week of 2026-04-13 rose 10.85%, both slightly above this week; the week of 2023-01-09 rose 14.03% and the week of 2023-09-04 rose 12.62%, also above. In other words, the Stellar narrative has produced stronger single weeks repeatedly over the past few years, and this week does not rank near the top.

Popular posts on Square argue that US Bancorp completing a Stellar cross-border payment pilot is a genuine boost to the XLM ecosystem narrative, because a large US bank running cross-border payments on Stellar shows the chain can still be chosen by institutions for payment use cases (relayed, not the site's view). Other popular posts caution that a pilot and scaled adoption are different things, and that completing a pilot does not mean business volume will immediately show up in on-chain data, let alone that price will keep rising (relayed, not the site's view).

A third group focuses on rhythm, arguing that payment-concept coins like XLM often spike on news and give it back afterwards, with direction ultimately decided by whether more institutions follow (relayed, not the site's view). These are Square discussions only and say nothing definitive about price.

Three things easy to overlook

First, the 8.24% candle on 14 September was a gap-style move: it opened at 0.17698 USDT, almost on top of the prior close of 0.17699 USDT, and ran to 0.19157 USDT. That means entry costs that day clustered at high levels, and if the news heat fades, those positions show losses quickly; the drawdown for late buyers is larger than the weekly gain suggests.

Second, this is a USDT-margined perpetual contract, and high leverage turns a 10.01% weekly move into a very different P&L. There is no expiry, but funding is settled continuously, and the longer a position is held the more that cost eats into results. Chasing a single 8.24% day with high leverage multiplies news-driven uncertainty.

Third, funding often rises alongside one-way moves, so longs pay a holding cost on top of price swings. The first two days of this week moved fast, so funding was unlikely to be cheap, and that expense never appears in the daily table but does affect the account.

One more thing: the 172.64% week of 2024-11-18 and the 87.9% week of 2025-07-07 are conclusions reached in hindsight. Nobody inside those weeks knew how they would end, and nobody knows in advance whether this week becomes the next 172.64%. Treating the strongest historical week as an expectation is the easiest way to go wrong.

Default fees and what is paid after the rebate

The Binance contract default maker fee is 0.02% and the default taker fee is 0.05%. With a 20% rebate, the effective maker fee after the rebate is 0.016% and the effective taker fee after the rebate is 0.04%.

In a week where two days carry the move, the maker-taker gap matters more: someone chasing intraday on 14 September is likely a taker paying 0.04%, while someone resting an order for a pullback pays 0.016%. Fees do not set direction, but in a volatile week they do take a real bite out of short-term profit.
