A Complete Guide to OKX Contract Trading: Start Leveraged Trading from Scratch

Are you also tickled by those “doubling overnight” stories in the currency circle? Want to try contract trading, but are you afraid of getting confused by all the professional terminology? Don't panic, today we will explain to you the contract transactions of OKX like an old leek. No financial background is required, just know how to add, subtract, multiply and divide. Just follow along and I'm sure you can get started.

To put it bluntly, contract trading is "borrowing money to speculate in coins" - you have 1,000 yuan in hand, and the platform lends you 4,000 yuan, so that you can trade with 5,000 yuan, making double the profit and five times the speed of losing money. Sounds exciting, right? But before playing, we have to find out the rules first. Don't just start playing, which is no different from giving money.

Step 1: Transfer money to margin account

It's just like when you go to an amusement park and you have to convert cash into tokens before you can play the items, it's the same truth.

How to operate? After logging into OKX, when you play leverage for the first time, an agreement will pop up for you to confirm - don't be annoyed, just scan it and click "Agree", safety first. Then find the currency trading interface. In the row of currency pairs on the left, those marked with "5X" support leverage. Click in, there is a "Transfer Assets" button in the upper right corner, click it.

At this time, you need to transfer the principal from the currency account to the "margin trading account". Remember, you can’t borrow money without principal. Just like when you go to a bank for a loan, they have to see if you have collateral, right?

There are three transfer routes for you to choose from:

  • Click "Transfer Assets" directly on the transaction interface, which is the easiest way
  • Go to the "Fund Management" page to operate, suitable for those who love to toss
  • Follow the pop-up prompts when logging in for the first time, friendly to beginners

Use whatever is convenient for you. Anyway, different paths lead to the same goal, as long as the money is available.

Step 2: Borrowing currency - the soul operation of leverage

After transferring money, the next step is to borrow coins. This is the soul of contract trading. If you play it well, you will make huge profits, but if you play it badly, you will be liquidated.

How to borrow? Still in the currency trading interface, select the currency pair you want to play (such as BTC/USDT) and click the "Borrow" button. At this time you will see two options: borrow BTC or borrow USDT?

Which one you choose depends entirely on your judgment:

  • **Bullish on Bitcoin? ** Borrow USDT to buy BTC, then sell the BTC to repay the money when the price rises. The price difference is your profit - this is called bargain hunting, but don't buy it halfway up the mountain.
  • **Bearish for Bitcoin? ** Borrow BTC and sell it directly, then buy it back at a low price when it falls and pay it back. The money you save is what you earn - this is called shorting, and it is most exciting when the market takes a stab at the market.

The maximum amount of currency you can borrow is 4 times your principal. That is to say, if you have 1,000 yuan, you can borrow up to 4,000 yuan, and operate a total position of 5,000 yuan. However, it is recommended for novices to try it on a small scale first. Don’t be full of money as soon as you start, which may easily lead to a breakdown in mentality.

Note on interest issues:

  • OKX calculates interest by the hour, and it is calculated as long as you use it, just like renting a car.
  • Interest rates are updated hourly and will fluctuate based on market supply and demand. Sometimes they are as low as a freebie.
  • After successfully borrowing the currency, the interest rate will be locked for 24 hours, and then updated every 24 hours, which is considered a small buffer.

Step 3: Start trading – this is where you make money

After borrowing the currency, the funds in your account will be several times its original size, and you can start real trading. Here are two practical examples to give you a feel:

Go long ETH (bet on the rise): You think Ethereum is going to rise, so you borrow 5,000 USDT and buy all of it into ETH. Assume that the buying price is 2,000 USDT/piece and you buy 2.5 pieces. In two days, ETH rises to 2,400 USDT per coin. You sell all 2.5 coins and get 6,000 USDT. Pay off the principal of 5,000 USDT and the interest of 50 USDT, and the remaining 950 USDT is your net profit - cool, right? But don't forget to stop your losses. It would be terrible if the market reverses.

Short ETH (betting on the downside): You judge that Ethereum is going to fall, borrow 2 ETH and sell it immediately, getting 4,000 USDT. Sure enough, ETH dropped to 1,800 USDT per coin. You spent 3,600 USDT to buy back 2 coins and pay them back. Adding the interest of 50 USDT, you made a net profit of 350 USDT. If you play short short well, you can still make money in a bear market, but you have to keep an eye on the market and don't get slapped in the face by the rebound.

Step 4: Repay the currency and interest - it is important to stop profits in a timely manner

If you make money or don’t want to play anymore, remember to return the coins in time. The operation is very simple: find your margin account, click "Return Coins", and enter the amount to confirm. You can repay the currency you borrowed, don't get confused, otherwise the platform will charge penalty interest.

Two key reminders:

  1. Interest is calculated on an hourly basis, so you can save a lot of money by paying it back as soon as you don’t need it – veterans in the currency circle are very careful with their calculations.
  2. The system will force you to repay interest every 7 days, but the principal can always be borrowed, which is suitable for long-term players.

Three things that novices must read

1. 24-hour trading system - freedom but restraint

The currency circle is not like the stock market. There is no concept of opening and closing. You can buy and sell at any time. This kind of freedom is great, but it can also make people trade impulsively. There are many novices who wake up in the middle of the night and see the market fluctuations and can't help but make operations. The next day, they regret it - I have done this stupid thing myself. Suggestion: Set your own trading hours and don’t let currency price fluctuations disrupt your rhythm of life. Sleep when you should and eat when you should.

2. Fixed investment strategy - don’t think about buying the bottom to escape the top

Many people fantasize about buying at the lowest point and selling at the highest point. The reality is that 99% of people can't do it. Don’t force newbies to do things that even professional traders can’t do—that’s called magic operation, and we mortals can’t learn it. Reliable approach: Insist on fixed investment and buy a certain amount of coins at a fixed time every week or every month. This can smooth costs and reduce risks. Take your time, it's faster.

3. Private key security - if you lose it, it is gone

This is top priority! The private key of Bitcoin is like your bank card password. If you lose it, you will lose your money. No customer service can help you retrieve it-the platform does not care about this. Set a complex password, make multiple backups, store them in different places, and don’t be lazy. Lessons learned through blood and tears: I have seen people store their private keys on their computers, but when their computers broke down, millions of dollars were lost, and they had no place to cry. Safety first is always the iron rule in the currency circle.

Why recommend OKX?

There are so many trading platforms on the market, why choose OuYi? There are three hard-core reasons, all summarized by the old leek:

  1. Strong safety: It has been established for many years and has never had any safety accidents, and its funds are guaranteed. **Remember, when playing currency, you must choose a large firm that is ranked among the top in the world and has a formal license. Stay away from those pheasant platforms that you have never heard of. Otherwise, you will run away without even having time to cry - this is not to scare you. **
  2. Good trading depth: The large platform has sufficient liquidity. When you want to buy, someone will sell it, and when you want to sell, someone will buy it. There will be no order jams, and all transactions will be smooth.
  3. Low handling fee: It is already cheaper than other platforms. If you register through our exclusive link and use the invitation code LULALA, you can get a permanent discount of 20%. Calculated, you can save a lot - it will not be a waste of money. 👉 Register OKX now and lock in 20% handling fee discount

Summary

Contract trading can indeed magnify returns, but it can also magnify risks. Novices must control their positions well when entering the market, and don't rush into the market with full positions - that is the behavior of gamblers, not investments. It is recommended to practice with a small amount of money first, and then gradually increase investment once you are familiar with the rules and rhythms. Only by surviving can you see the bull market.

Remember a few core points: Fund transfer → Borrow currency → Transaction → Return currency promptly. Once you master this process, you're good to go. As for whether you can make money, it depends on your judgment of the market and control of your mentality - there are many opportunities in the currency circle, but the premise is that you must survive first and not be washed out.

Want a better experience and lower costs in cryptocurrency trading? OKX is a good choice, especially for novices who want to try leveraged trading but are worried about risk control. Remember, investment is risky and you need to be cautious when entering the market - Although this is an old saying, it is absolutely the truth, and all experienced leeks understand it.
