A 4.23% Week, With 49 Weeks Still Ahead of It

The stablecoin payments and on-chain liquidity narrative has heated up again, and when that kind of topic draws attention, focus usually goes to deep mainstream contracts like BTCUSDT first. As of 2026-09-25, Binance BTCUSDT moved from 81144 USDT to 84576.5 USDT this week, a change of 4.23%. The weekly sample contains 200 weeks, and 49 of them were stronger than this one, so this week sits roughly in the top quarter of the sample, but far from the most aggressive tier. Narrative is narrative and price is price, and keeping the two apart is what stops the heat from carrying you along.

What Actually Happened

The daily candles come from the Binance official interface, with the change column copied at the precision the interface shows.

2026-09-2584370.1 USDT84576.5 USDT0.24%

Only two days really set the weekly number. On 09-21 price ran from 81144 USDT to 86578.7 USDT, 6.7% in a single session, and that is where most of the weekly gain came from. The 5.86% on 09-18 belongs to the prior week, but it lifted price from 76385.8 USDT to 80863 USDT and left this week a high starting point. The rest of the week was digestion: 09-22 closed at 86158.6 USDT, down 0.49%; 09-23 closed at 84355.1 USDT, down 2.09%, giving back part of the 09-21 move; 09-24 and 09-25 moved just 0.02% and 0.24%, closing at 84576.5 USDT. This was not a steady climb, it was one impulse followed by sideways drift, and the drawdown inside the week was not small.

Where It Sits in a 200-Week Sample

A few of the 49 stronger weeks make the gap clear. The week of 2023-01-09 ran from 17124.6 USDT to 20882.7 USDT, up 21.95%; 2023-03-13 ran from 21986.2 USDT to 27955.7 USDT, up 27.15%; 2024-02-26 ran from 51764.9 USDT to 63178.5 USDT, up 22.05%; 2026-08-17 ran from 62876 USDT to 77719.1 USDT, up 23.61%. Each of those is higher than this week's 4.23%.

2026-09-1476805 USDT81143.9 USDT5.65%

The week right before is more telling. The week of 2026-09-14 ran from 76805 USDT to 81143.9 USDT, up 5.65%, higher than this week's 4.23%. Two up weeks in a row, but the second was weaker than the first, and this week's 4.23% came from an already elevated base rather than a launch off lows. With 200 weeks in the sample and 49 stronger, this week is upper-middle, not extreme.

Trending posts on the Square argue that stablecoin payment and settlement demand is genuinely growing, that on-chain liquidity is thickening, and that this infrastructure-level expansion eventually transmits to mainstream crypto assets like BTC (relayed, not the site's view). Other trending posts caution that on-chain volume is a flow metric with no necessary lead-lag relationship to price direction, and that when a narrative heats up, sentiment often moves before price does (relayed, not the site's view).

Both point at the same thing: larger stablecoin settlement means real transfer and payment demand on-chain, which is the base layer of liquidity. A thicker base does not mean price reacts immediately, and how much of this week's 4.23% in BTCUSDT belongs to that narrative is not visible in the daily candles. After the 6.7% candle on 09-21 came two down days, which looks more like a short news-driven impulse than sustained narrative buying.

Three Things to Think Through First

Gaps stand out this week. The 09-21 open was 81144 USDT against a 09-20 close of 81143.9 USDT, essentially continuous, so price walked up without leaving a gap; the 09-22 open of 86578.8 USDT against the 09-21 close of 86578.7 USDT is continuous too. Continuity means there is no gap to reference for a fill, so if direction reverses, support has to come from prior volume areas rather than from a gap.

High leverage is especially exposed to single-day swings in this environment. 09-21 moved 6.7% and 09-23 fell 2.09%, both sizeable in either direction, and leveraged positions absorbed far more than the 4.23% weekly figure suggests. The weekly looks calm, the daily does not, and those are two different time scales.

Funding is the other easily missed item. When a narrative heats up and long sentiment concentrates, perpetual funding tends to lean to one side, holding costs accumulate over time, and that cost never shows up in the change percentage. As for calling any week the best, that is always a conclusion reached in hindsight. With 49 of 200 weeks stronger, this week is not near the top, and picking the strongest weeks afterward easily makes that kind of force look normal.

On Fees

The Binance contract default maker fee is 0.02%, and the default taker fee is 0.05%. After a 20% rebate, the effective maker fee is 0.016% and the effective taker fee is 0.04%.

Read together, the default taker cost is higher than the maker cost, and the rebate does not change that ratio. In a week with a 6.7% single-day impulse, entering and exiting both as taker accumulates cost at 0.04% each time; maker is cheaper, but may not fill in a fast market.
