Bitcoin Fell 1.14% This Week: 127 of 200 Weeks Were Stronger
Bitcoin did not hold this week, moving from an open of 84433 USDT to a close of 83472.3 USDT, a weekly decline of 1.14%. In a sample of 200 weeks, 127 weeks were stronger than this one. That places the week in the weaker part of the historical range rather than the stronger part. For anyone watching the BTCUSDT perpetual contract, the more useful detail is not the decline itself but its pace: there was no large gap across the seven days, and the largest single-day drop was 1.15%, on 2026-09-28.
How the Daily Candles Moved
| Date | open (USDT) | close (USDT) | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026-09-24 | 84355.2 | 84370 | 0.02% |
| 2026-09-25 | 84370.1 | 84056 | -0.37% |
| 2026-09-26 | 84056 | 84403.3 | 0.41% |
| 2026-09-27 | 84403.2 | 84432.9 | 0.04% |
| 2026-09-28 | 84433 | 83461 | -1.15% |
| 2026-09-29 | 83461.1 | 83624.5 | 0.2% |
| 2026-09-30 | 83624.5 | 83576.9 | -0.06% |
| 2026-10-01 | 83576.8 | 83472.3 | -0.13% |
Only 2026-09-28 really pulled the weekly candle down. That day opened at 84433 USDT and closed at 83461 USDT, down 1.15%, the only close below 84056 USDT in the week. The first four days drifted above 84056 USDT, with 2026-09-26 closing at 84403.3 USDT and 2026-09-27 at 84432.9 USDT, both close to the 84370 USDT close of 2026-09-24.
From 2026-09-29 to 2026-10-01, price moved sideways between 83461.1 USDT and 83624.5 USDT: 83624.5 USDT, 83576.9 USDT and 83472.3 USDT. Two of those three days were down and one was up, at 0.2%, -0.06% and -0.13%, all small. In other words, the week was not driven by continuous selling pressure; one down candle set the tone and nobody stepped in to lift it afterward.
Where This Week Sits in 200 Weeks
The BTCUSDT weekly sample has 200 weeks, and this week fell 1.14%, with 127 weeks stronger. A single-week decline of 1.14% is not rare historically, but it is not mild either. A few stronger weeks for comparison: the week of 2026-08-17 opened at 62876 USDT and closed at 77719.1 USDT, up 23.61%; the week of 2026-09-14 opened at 76805 USDT and closed at 81143.9 USDT, up 5.65%; the week of 2026-09-21 opened at 81144 USDT and closed at 84432.9 USDT, up 4.05%. All three are within the past two months and all were stronger than this week.
Further back, the week of 2023-03-13 opened at 21986.2 USDT and closed at 27955.7 USDT, up 27.15%; the week of 2024-02-26 opened at 51764.9 USDT and closed at 63178.5 USDT, up 22.05%; the week of 2025-09-29 opened at 112119.7 USDT and closed at 123426.7 USDT, up 10.08%. These stronger weeks sit in different price ranges, some starting low and some continuing higher. Against them, this week's 1.14% decline differs not in direction but in magnitude and participation.
What Popular Square Posts Say
Popular posts on Square argue that behind the tag of Bitcoin breaking above 85200 USD, market sentiment is recovering, citing that price did not keep losing ground and that the earlier move up from around 62876 USDT has not been fully given back (relayed, not the view of this site). Other popular posts note that the 85200 USD level looks more like a sentiment marker than a technical floor, since the week's highest close was 84432.9 USDT, still short of that number (relayed, not the view of this site).
Still other popular posts focus on the weekly sample, arguing that 127 of 200 weeks being stronger means the current stretch is not a strong cycle, and that the sentiment recovery is relative to the declines of prior weeks (relayed, not the view of this site). These are Square discussions, not established facts, and should be read with that in mind.
Three Things Easy to Overlook
First, there was no gap this week, but there was also no volume-backed recovery. After the 1.15% drop on 2026-09-28, the following days moved 0.2%, -0.06% and -0.13%, and together they did not recover that drop. Price stopped at 83472.3 USDT, still away from the week's open of 84433 USDT.
Second, high leverage on perpetual contracts amplifies the cost of sideways periods. BTCUSDT is a crypto USDT-margined perpetual contract with no expiry, so a position can be held indefinitely, but funding settles continuously. Three flat days look quiet, yet the holding cost keeps running; when direction is wrong, time itself is a cost.
Third, funding is harder to read in a sideways market than in a one-way move. In a trend, positioning leans one way and funding direction is relatively clear; in a week like this, with two down days and one up day all within 0.2%, funding flips back and forth and chasing it tends to get hit on both sides. As for the idea that the best week is only known in hindsight, the 23.61% gain in the week of 2026-08-17 was clear only afterward; each day inside it looked ordinary at the time.
On Fees
The Binance contract default maker fee is 0.02% and the default taker fee is 0.05%. The rebate ratio is 20%, and after the rebate the effective maker fee is 0.016% and the effective taker fee is 0.04%.
Those three sentences mean the fees are not high, but they are charged per trade. In a week where daily moves were only 0.02%, 0.04% and 0.06%, frequent entries and exits mean a 0.05% taker fee applies twice per round trip, and that cost share grows. Putting the default tier next to the post-rebate numbers, the gap between 0.016% maker and 0.04% taker decides whether you wait for price or chase it.
