The week ended almost where it started

As of 2026-10-03, BTCUSDT opened the week at 84433 USDT and last closed at 84410.4 USDT, a weekly move of -0.03%. The single best day was 10-01, which ran from 83576.8 USDT to 84829.6 USDT for a 1.5% gain. The worst was 09-28, which fell from 84433 USDT to 83461 USDT, a 1.15% drop. Neither move held. For anyone trading the BTCUSDT perpetual, the story of this week is back-and-forth, not trend.

2026-10-0284829.684410.4-0.49%

Only three of those eight sessions deserve a mention. 09-28 was the one real down candle, opening at 84433 USDT and closing at 83461 USDT for a 1.15% drop; it set the week's floor. 10-01 was the one real up candle, opening at 83576.8 USDT and closing at 84829.6 USDT for a 1.5% gain; it pulled price back above the 84000 area. 10-02 gave part of that back, opening at 84829.6 USDT and closing at 84410.4 USDT for a 0.49% decline. The other four sessions moved 0.41%, 0.04%, 0.2% and -0.06%, all small bodies hugging the prior close.

That structure matters for leveraged traders: there is very little room for chasing. A 1.5% up day followed by a 0.49% giveback punishes late entries, and a 1.15% down day followed by three sessions between 83461.1 and 83624.5 offers no continuation for shorts either.

In a 200-week sample, this week is not in the strong half

The BTCUSDT weekly sample holds 200 weeks, and 103 of them were stronger than this one. A -0.03% result sits below the middle of the sample.

2024-02-0542570.348303.413.47%

The strongest in the sample, the week of 2023-03-13, ran from 21986.2 USDT to 27955.7 USDT for 27.15%. The most recent standout, 2026-08-17, ran from 62876 USDT to 77719.1 USDT for 23.61%. The two weeks right before this one, 2026-09-14 and 2026-09-21, moved 5.65% and 4.05%, both clearly stronger than -0.03%. This week leaves almost no trace on the chart.

Trending posts on the Square argue (relayed, not this site's view) that bitcoin's 2.99% daily gain reflects sentiment moving first and price following, rather than a single fundamental catalyst. Those posts also note that breaks near round numbers often come with heavier volume, and that holding the level in the following days matters more than the size of the breakout day. The 2.99% figure comes from a different measurement window than the 1.5% session on 10-01 shown above, so the two should not be mixed.

Three things easy to overlook

First, gaps look small on daily candles but amplify in perpetuals. 09-27 closed at 84432.9 USDT and 09-28 opened at 84433 USDT, nearly identical; 09-28 closed at 83461 USDT and 09-29 opened at 83461.1 USDT, also nearly identical. Continuous prices do not mean a continuous experience for anyone holding through the chop.

Second, high leverage erases the difference between 0.04% and 1.15%. Four sessions this week moved no more than 0.41% in absolute terms, while 1.15% and 1.5% sessions stood out. Chasing the 1.5% up day with high leverage and then absorbing the -0.49% giveback produces an account curve far more volatile than the price itself.

Third, funding is a persistent cost in a flat week. Price went from 84433 USDT to 84410.4 USDT, essentially nowhere, yet holding overnight still carries a fee. The best week is always a conclusion reached in hindsight: the 23.61% week of 2026-08-17 was only obvious after it finished.

Fees, stated plainly

Binance's default maker fee is 0.02% and the default taker fee is 0.05%. The rebate ratio is 20%. After the rebate, the effective maker fee is 0.016% and the effective taker fee is 0.04%. In a week where price moved -0.03%, the 0.04% effective taker cost becomes visible after repeated entries. Choosing maker versus taker matters more here than direction.
