A 0.22% week, while sentiment moved first

The IMF approving funds for El Salvador was widely shared, but it did not produce a large green candle on BTCUSDT. The week ran from 84433 USDT to 84622.5 USDT, a weekly change of 0.22%, and the biggest single-day move was 1.5% on October 1. For contract traders that number matters more than the headline: a widely shared macro story left the chart with less than a quarter of a percent of displacement, which says a lot sits between news and price. El Salvador's ties to Bitcoin have been discussed for years, and a disbursement is a fiscal event, not automatically a bid.

September 28 is the day to watch. Price fell from 84433 USDT to 83461 USDT, down 1.15%, the only real dip and the largest drop of the week. October 1 then pulled from 83576.8 USDT to 84829.6 USDT, up 1.5%, recovering what was lost. The rest drifted: 0.2% up on September 29, 0.06% down on September 30, 0.41% down on October 2, 0.17% up on October 3. One dip, one recovery, then sideways.

Where it ranks among 200 weekly samples

BTCUSDT has 200 weekly samples, and 94 weeks were stronger than this one. The 0.22% sits below the middle. The stronger weeks vary widely: the week of 2023-01-09 ran from 17124.6 USDT to 20882.7 USDT, up 21.95%; 2023-03-13 ran from 21986.2 USDT to 27955.7 USDT, up 27.15%; 2024-02-26 ran from 51764.9 USDT to 63178.5 USDT, up 22.05%; 2026-08-17 ran from 62876 USDT to 77719.1 USDT, up 23.61%. Others barely cleared it, such as 0.23% in the week of 2023-07-10 and 0.28% in the week of 2026-03-02.

The week of 2026-09-21 belongs here too: 81144 USDT to 84432.9 USDT, up 4.05%, stronger than this week. Two weeks in a row, the first wider and the second narrow.

Popular Square posts argue that the IMF approving funds for El Salvador will be read by some as evidence that Bitcoin still holds up on a national balance sheet, since El Salvador is one of the few countries with BTC in its official narrative (relayed, not this site's view). Other posts caution that the money is fiscal, not a purchase, so translating it into bids is a stretch. Some focus on timing, noting BTCUSDT was grinding in a range when the news landed, and that any headline at such a level gets treated as a reason to break out until volume proves otherwise.

Three things easy to get wrong

First, gaps and news are over-linked. There was no dramatic gap this week; the 1.5% candle on October 1 was built in normal hours, not at the moment of the headline. Aligning timestamps with candles often shows price already moved, or never did.

Second, high leverage turns a 0.22% weekly range into a different experience. The largest daily drop was 1.15% and the largest daily gain 1.5%, trivial in spot and decisive with high leverage. Being right on direction can still end with the September 28 candle.

Third, funding and carry are a separate bill. When price goes sideways, funding still settles on schedule, and the wrong side keeps paying. A week of that can matter more than the price move. As for the "best week" framing, it is always a conclusion in hindsight; nobody knew those 20%-plus weeks would close that way while they were happening.

Fees, stated plainly

The default maker fee on Binance contracts is 0.02% and the default taker fee is 0.05%. With a 20% rebate, the effective maker fee is 0.016% and the effective taker fee is 0.04%. These numbers are unrelated to direction, but every open and close touches them, and in a flat week they happen more reliably than a trend.
