This week closed at 85580 USDT, down 1.04%

BTCUSDT opened the week at 86482.8 USDT and last closed at 85580 USDT, a weekly decline of 1.04%. The 2.09% single-day gain on 2026-10-04 was the strongest session of the stretch, but three consecutive down days pulled the weekly candle back into negative territory. For anyone watching the 2026 opening price discussion, the point is not the size of the drop but the interruption of the early-October momentum: price moved from 86482.8 USDT back to 85580 USDT, still above the 83461.1 USDT starting point from late September, yet no longer moving in one direction.

Only two daily candles deserve a closer look

The two sessions that matter are 2026-10-04 and 2026-10-05. On 2026-10-04, BTCUSDT opened at 84710.5 USDT and closed at 86482.8 USDT, a 2.09% gain and the highest close of the week. The next day opened at the same 86482.8 USDT and closed at 85717.2 USDT, down 0.89%, giving back most of the prior day's advance. On 2026-10-06 it fell another 0.16% to close at 85580 USDT. Taken together, the 2026-10-04 high did not hold, and the weekly close sits below the weekly open. The -0.06% print on 2026-09-30 shows price was already flat near 83576.9 USDT before the 2026-10-01 move began.

124 of 200 weekly samples were stronger

The BTCUSDT weekly sample contains 200 weeks, and 124 of them were stronger than this week. A -1.04% result does not place in the top half. Among the stronger weeks, 2023-03-13 ran from 21986.2 USDT to 27955.7 USDT for 27.15%; 2026-08-17 ran from 62876 USDT to 77719.1 USDT for 23.61%; 2024-02-26 ran from 51764.9 USDT to 63178.5 USDT for 22.05%; and 2023-01-09 ran from 17124.6 USDT to 20882.7 USDT for 21.95%. The gap is not marginal: this week is negative while those weeks are double-digit gains. Placed back into the 200-week distribution, this week sits in the weaker bucket.

Popular posts on the Square argue that the 2026 opening price is becoming the center of discussion, with more threads focused on BTCUSDT contract price action (relayed, not the view of this site). The debate splits between whether the early-October bounce from around 83461.1 USDT can continue, and where price lands over the rest of 2026. Some posts also note that the push to 86482.8 USDT this week failed to hold, suggesting overhead pressure remains. These are opinions, not confirmed facts, and cannot be verified from the daily data alone.

Three things easy to overlook

First, the 2026-10-04 high and the 2026-10-05 open are the same figure, 86482.8 USDT. The handoff was clean, but the direction flipped fast, and anyone holding overnight faced a -0.89% decline at the next open.

Second, the -1.04% weekly decline arrives against a backdrop where 124 of 200 weeks were stronger. Looking at one week in isolation invites the conclusion that it is just a small pullback, but across the sample this week does not rank near the top, and one week is too small a sample to project a 2026 opening price.

Third, with high leverage in contract trading, a -1.04% weekly decline is amplified at the margin level, and with two down days out of three from 2026-10-04 to 2026-10-06, funding costs keep affecting holding expenses. The "best week" is always a conclusion in hindsight; at the 2026-10-04 close, nobody knew two down days would follow.

Fees at the default tier

The Binance contract default maker fee is 0.02%, and the default taker fee is 0.05%. With a 20% rebate ratio, the effective maker fee after rebate is 0.016%, and the effective taker fee after rebate is 0.04%.
