France is advancing a crypto self-custody reporting proposal, and BTCUSDT closed this week down 1.22%, ranking 128th out of 200 weekly samples, with 72 weeks weaker than this one. The daily data shows four down days out of eight, concentrated on October 7, October 8, and October 12. For anyone watching BTC contracts, the key is not the headline but whether your position and fee costs are clear when price moves between 81711 USDT and 83723.1 USDT.

Ranked 128th in 200 Weeks

BTCUSDT has 200 weekly samples, and this week ranks 128th, in the latter half of the sample. There are 127 stronger weeks and 72 weaker weeks. A 1.22% drop is not extreme, but it is not negligible either.

Among stronger weeks, 2023-01-09 rose 21.95%, 2023-03-13 rose 27.15%, 2024-02-26 rose 22.05%, and 2026-08-17 rose 23.61%. Some stronger weeks fell less than this week: 2023-03-20 fell 0.01%, 2023-05-15 fell 0.63%, 2023-09-18 fell 1.06%, 2024-04-15 fell 1.07%, 2025-02-10 fell 0.37%, and 2026-05-18 fell 0.52%. This week's 1.22% drop is weaker than those, but stronger than the other 72 weeks.

What Square Hot Posts Say

Square hot posts believe France's self-custody reporting proposal raises expectations of tighter regulation, but BTC contract prices did not make a one-way decline, instead swinging between 81711 USDT and 83723.1 USDT (relayed, not our view). Hot posts also note that self-custody reporting affects holding and reporting, not contract trading rules, so the daily reaction looks more like sentiment than a trend reversal. Some posts warn that regulatory news can be read differently across Asian and European sessions, so short-term positions should watch gaps and funding fees (relayed, not our view). These are market opinions, not confirmed facts.

Three Honest Points

First, gaps are not only at the open. On October 12, BTCUSDT opened at 83723.1 USDT and closed at 81813.4 USDT, down 2.28% intraday; watching only the close misses what happened during the session. Second, high leverage magnifies a 1.22% weekly drop into a much larger account move, and with four down days out of eight, there is little time to react if you are on the wrong side. Third, funding fees flip back and forth in a choppy week, so do not treat one period's positive or negative as the whole week's direction. The best week is a conclusion in hindsight; this week ranks 128th, with 72 weaker weeks, which is neither the worst nor worth celebrating.

Fee Calculation

Binance contract default maker fee is 0.02%, and default taker fee is 0.05%. After 20% back, the actual maker fee is 0.016%, and the actual taker fee is 0.04%. At this tier, one taker trade still costs 2.5 times a maker trade, so frequent taker orders can noticeably eat into profits in a choppy week.
