BTC Fell 2.15% This Week: Only 59 of 200 Weeks Were Weaker
Strive added 3,311 BTC, yet BTCUSDT still closed the week down 2.15%. Binance endpoint data on the daily candles and the 200-week sample.

Institutions Buy, Price Falls
Strive added 3,311 BTC, a headline that circulated widely, but BTCUSDT still finished the week lower: from 83723.1 USDT to 81921.5 USDT, a drop of 2.15%. Within a 200-week sample, this week ranks 141st, placing it in the latter half of the sample, with 59 weeks weaker than it. The accumulation story and the price direction simply did not line up this week, and anyone trading futures purely on the headline would have been whipsawed.
How the Week Unfolded
| Date | Open | Close | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026-10-07 | 85507.6 USDT | 83281.9 USDT | -2.6% |
| 2026-10-08 | 83281.9 USDT | 81711 USDT | -1.89% |
| 2026-10-09 | 81711 USDT | 82578.5 USDT | 1.06% |
| 2026-10-10 | 82578.5 USDT | 82941 USDT | 0.44% |
| 2026-10-11 | 82941 USDT | 83723 USDT | 0.94% |
| 2026-10-12 | 83723.1 USDT | 81813.4 USDT | -2.28% |
| 2026-10-13 | 81813.5 USDT | 83125.7 USDT | 1.6% |
| 2026-10-14 | 83125.8 USDT | 81921.5 USDT | -1.45% |
Three days tell the story. October 12 was the heaviest decline, sliding from 83723.1 USDT to 81813.4 USDT, a 2.28% drop that set the tone on the very first day of the week. October 13 bounced 1.6% to close at 83125.7 USDT, looking like a repair, but October 14 gave back 1.45% to close at 81921.5 USDT. The three-day rally from October 9 to October 11 only carried price from 81711 USDT back to 83723 USDT, never reclaiming the 85507.6 USDT from October 7. Down two days, up three, down two again, with the center of gravity drifting lower.
In a Longer Frame
Placing this week inside the 200-week sample, 140 weeks were stronger. Among those, the big gainers spread wide: the week of 2023-01-09 rose 21.95%, 2023-03-13 rose 27.15%, 2024-02-26 rose 22.05%, and 2026-08-17 rose 23.61%. Some stronger weeks actually fell, but by less than this week: 2022-12-26 dropped 1.27%, 2023-03-06 dropped 1.93%, and 2025-02-24 dropped 2.07%, all still counted as stronger. This week ranks 141st, in the latter half of the sample, with 59 weeks weaker. Put differently: of the past 200 weeks, 59 performed worse than this one, and the rest did better. That places this week as soft rather than extreme, looking more like a pullback after the large candles of August and September 2026.
What the Hot Posts Say
Hot posts on the Square argue that Strive adding 3,311 BTC shows institutions are still building bitcoin reserves, and that such buying gradually changes the market's supply structure (relayed, not this site's view). Some posts pair the news with MSTRUSDT, noting that the bitcoin-reserve concept names on the equity side are moving more closely with BTCUSDT. The same posts note that institutional buying pace and short-term price direction do not always agree, and that price can still fall after an accumulation announcement. These are opinions, not established facts.
Three Plain Truths
News and price are two separate lines. Strive adding 3,311 BTC is a corporate allocation move; it does not promise that price rises the next day, and this week's 2.15% decline is the proof.
High leverage magnifies that mismatch. This week saw single-day moves of -2.6%, -2.28%, and -1.45%; when you are on the wrong side, the higher the leverage, the less room you have for error.
Funding is a hidden holding cost. Many watch the price but forget that perpetual contracts settle funding periodically, and the longer you hold, the more that bill matters.
The best weeks are conclusions in hindsight. Numbers like 21.95% for 2023-01-09 or 27.15% for 2023-03-13 were labeled only after the fact; nobody knew in advance which week would become that candle.
The Fee Math
Binance's default maker fee is 0.02% and default taker fee is 0.05%, the baseline without any rebate. With a 20% rebate ratio, the effective maker fee after rebate is 0.016% and the effective taker fee after rebate is 0.04%. For frequent traders, taking the taker tier from 0.05% down to 0.04% looks small per trade but adds up over a week.
