BTC closed the week up 4.02% while gold closed down 2.05%

As of 2026-09-27, Binance BTCUSDT closed the week up 4.02%. In the same week XAUUSDT closed down 2.05%, SPYUSDT closed up 0.77% and QQQUSDT closed up 2.75%. All four contracts are listed on Binance, as a crypto USDT-margined perpetual, a commodity USDT-margined perpetual and two US equity USDT-margined perpetuals. For anyone watching the rate path, the interesting part is not the size of the BTC move but the split: gold fell on the week while the equity index contracts and BTC rose. The daily rows are laid out below, followed by a comparison with stronger weeks in the sample.

For BTCUSDT the week turned on a single session. On 2026-09-21 it opened at 81144 USDT and closed at 86578.7 USDT, up 6.7% on the day, which carried the weekly close to 4.02%. The largest give-back came on 2026-09-23, when it opened at 86158.6 USDT and closed at 84355.1 USDT, down 2.09% on the day, though that did not erase the 09-21 gain. XAUUSDT moved the other way: on 2026-09-23 it opened at 4367.27 USDT and closed at 4292.3 USDT, down 1.72% on the day, the largest single-day drop among the four, and it finished the week down 2.05%. SPYUSDT and QQQUSDT moved in a smaller range, with QQQUSDT up 2.66% on 2026-09-21 after opening at 724.24 USDT and closing at 743.54 USDT.

Where 4.02% sits in a 200-week sample

BTCUSDT has a weekly sample of 200 weeks, and 53 weeks were stronger than this one. That puts 4.02% in the middle-to-upper part of the sample rather than at the top. A few of the stronger weeks: the week of 2026-08-17 opened at 62876 USDT and closed at 77719.1 USDT, up 23.61%; the week of 2023-03-13 opened at 21986.2 USDT and closed at 27955.7 USDT, up 27.15%; the week of 2024-02-26 opened at 51764.9 USDT and closed at 63178.5 USDT, up 22.05%; the week of 2023-01-09 opened at 17124.6 USDT and closed at 20882.7 USDT, up 21.95%. Against those numbers, 4.02% is a different order of magnitude.

XAUUSDT has a weekly sample of 42 weeks, and 31 weeks were stronger than this one. Note that stronger here is a ranking by change, so several of those weeks are larger declines, such as the week of 2026-09-07, which opened at 4426.66 USDT and closed at 4337.37 USDT, down 2.02%, and the week of 2026-06-22, which opened at 4142.65 USDT and closed at 4065.01 USDT, down 1.87%. This week XAUUSDT fell 2.05%, close to the 2.02% of 2026-09-07.

SPYUSDT has a weekly sample of 25 weeks with 10 stronger weeks, including the week of 2026-04-13, which opened at 679.19 USDT and closed at 709.38 USDT, up 4.45%, and the week of 2026-04-06, which opened at 658.3 USDT and closed at 679.19 USDT, up 3.17%. QQQUSDT also has a 25-week sample but only 5 stronger weeks, including the week of 2026-04-13, which opened at 610.63 USDT and closed at 647.62 USDT, up 6.06%, and the week of 2026-05-04, which opened at 674.17 USDT and closed at 710.06 USDT, up 5.32%. At 2.75%, QQQUSDT already ranks near the front of its 25-week sample.

Popular posts on Square argue that rising expectations around the Fed rate path were the main thread this week, and that allocation among BTC, gold and equity index contracts diverged sharply (relayed, not the view of this site). One explanation in those posts is that a firmer rate outlook pressures gold first, forces a re-rating of equity valuations, and leaves BTC attracting short-term speculative flow because it carries both risk-asset and high-volatility traits. The posts also mention that rate-sensitive reactions in Treasury volatility contracts are worth watching, since volatility often moves first when the rate path is repriced. Other posts note that a 4.02% week is not extreme by BTC history and that the real question is whether the next few weeks continue, rather than treating one week as an established trend. These are Square discussions, not confirmed facts.

Three things that are easy to miss

Gaps and wicks are common in rate-driven themes. BTCUSDT opened at 81144 USDT and closed at 86578.7 USDT on 2026-09-21, and a 6.7% day means prices move fast intraday, so a resting order far from the market can fill at a very different price than the one on screen. XAUUSDT opened at 4367.27 USDT and closed at 4292.3 USDT on 2026-09-23, down 1.72% on the day, which shows gold is not calm when the rate outlook shifts.

High leverage magnifies that. BTCUSDT had a 6.7% up day and a 2.09% down day in the same week, and when the direction is wrong, the higher the leverage the faster forced reduction arrives. XAUUSDT closed the week down 2.05%, SPYUSDT closed up 0.77% and QQQUSDT closed up 2.75%, so the four contracts did not share one direction, and betting them all the same way carries more risk than it looks.

Funding rates and the fact that the best week is a backward-looking conclusion belong together. Perpetual funding rates shift with the balance of longs and shorts, and holding costs rise in one-sided moves, which is easy to overlook after a 4.02% weekly close. Also, 53 of 200 weeks were stronger than this one, so 4.02% is an ordinary position in the sample; calling it the best week is a conclusion that only holds in hindsight.

How the fees work out

The default maker fee on Binance contracts is 0.02% and the default taker fee is 0.05%. The rebate ratio is 20%, which puts the effective maker fee after the rebate at 0.016% and the effective taker fee at 0.04%. Those three numbers shape the cost structure for frequent in-and-out trading, and the difference matters more when a contract like BTCUSDT moves 6.7% in a single day.
