A 7.22% weekly drop, and where it sits in 35 weeks

COINUSDT moved from 186.85 USDT to 173.36 USDT in the week of 2026-10-05, a weekly change of -7.22%. Over the same stretch HOODUSDT fell 6.52% and MSTRUSDT fell 9.66%, so all three reviewed US-equity USDT-margined perpetual contracts weakened together. For anyone watching the CLARITY Act, price and headlines moved in opposite directions: French Hill is pressing for passage during the lame-duck session, but the tape printed three negative numbers first.

How the week traded day by day

2026-10-08179.36 USDT173.36 USDT-3.35%

Only three days in that table deserve a pause. On 10-02 the price slid from 189.98 USDT to 183.31 USDT, -3.51%, cutting off the early-month bounce. On 10-07 it dropped from 186.5 USDT to 179.37 USDT, -3.82%, the heaviest down day of the week. On 10-08 it fell from 179.36 USDT to 173.36 USDT, -3.35%, and two consecutive declines set the weekly shape. Between 10-03 and 10-05 there was a modest stabilisation, with closes of 184.26 USDT, 186.86 USDT and 187.91 USDT stepping higher, but it was not enough, and after a -0.75% day on 10-06 the direction never turned back.

Placing the week inside the 35-week sample

COINUSDT has 35 weekly samples, 28 weeks were stronger than this one, and this week ranks 29th out of 35 including itself, in the back half of the sample. That makes it a weaker-than-typical stretch rather than an isolated accident.

A few stronger weeks make the contrast clear. The week of 2026-04-13 ran from 165.71 USDT to 201.21 USDT, a change of 21.42%; 2026-08-17 ran from 149.28 USDT to 188.36 USDT, 26.18%; 2026-06-29 ran from 149.07 USDT to 174.48 USDT, 17.05%; 2026-09-14 ran from 171.97 USDT to 195.42 USDT, 13.64%. Some down weeks also fell less than this one, such as 2026-05-11, which fell from 203.41 USDT to 190.35 USDT, -6.42%, and 2026-09-28, which fell from 196 USDT to 186.86 USDT, -4.66%; both still rank ahead of this week. Only 6 weeks in the sample were weaker. So -7.22% is on the heavy side for this sample, but not unprecedented.

Trending posts on the Square argue that French Hill's push to pass the CLARITY Act during the lame-duck session is a positive signal for compliant trading platforms and corporate holders, and that clearer regulatory boundaries would make the valuation case for names like COIN, HOOD and MSTR easier to tell (relayed, not this site's view). Other posts caution that whether the bill reaches the lame-duck calendar, and how it would be voted on, remains unknown, leaving a gap between expectation and enactment.

Those points are worth reading, but two things should stay separate. Legislation is a slow variable and will not reshape a company's revenue structure in a single week. Price is a fast variable, and this week already printed -7.22% for COINUSDT, -6.52% for HOODUSDT and -9.66% for MSTRUSDT. Treating trending posts as a read on sentiment is safer than treating them as a conclusion.

Three plain statements

First, gaps and consecutive down days do not announce themselves. On 10-07 and 10-08 the price fell -3.82% and -3.35% back to back; a position built near the 186.51 USDT close of 10-06 would have faced a sizeable drawdown within two days, with no calm window to adjust.

Second, US-equity USDT-margined perpetual contracts keep trading when the equity market is closed, but the price may lack a spot reference. High leverage on such instruments is more likely to be carried away by short bursts of volatility than rescued by fundamentals.

Third, funding and holding costs are deducted continuously, so even a correct direction can be worn down by time. The idea that the best week is only visible in hindsight holds here too: the 21.42% of 2026-04-13 and the 26.18% of 2026-08-17 were clear only afterwards.

On fees

Binance's default maker fee for contracts is 0.02% and the default taker fee is 0.05%. The rebate ratio is 20%, which puts the effective maker fee at 0.016% and the effective taker fee at 0.04%. These numbers are fixed, and the more frequently you trade, the more they matter to the realised result.

Correction (2026-10-10): an earlier version described two down weeks that fell less than this week (-6.42% and -4.66%) as weaker, and the headline said only 28 of 35 weeks were stronger. Per the figures in the article (35 weekly samples, this week ranked 29th), 28 weeks were stronger and only 6 were weaker; both have been corrected.
