The week the news landed, price answered the other way
Fed payment stablecoin rules were drafted and discussed through this week, but Binance US-stock USDT-margined perpetuals did not follow the mood. COINUSDT moved from 196 USDT to 190.94 USDT, a weekly change of -2.58%. In the same week MSTRUSDT was -3.29%, HOODUSDT was -2.41% and PYPLUSDT was -0.43%. None of the four reviewed pairs closed positive, even though the reason they were discussed was exactly the idea that stablecoin and crypto-payment sentiment would benefit. The useful takeaway is that narrative direction and contract direction can point opposite ways in the same week, and only the latter shows up in an account.
Eight daily candles, only two closed green
The table below shows COINUSDT daily values from 2026-09-21 to 2026-09-28. Opens, closes and changes are copied from the interface without conversion.
| Date | open(USDT) | close(USDT) | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026-09-21 | 195.43 | 202.19 | 3.46% |
| 2026-09-22 | 202.22 | 200.62 | -0.79% |
| 2026-09-23 | 200.6 | 198.03 | -1.28% |
| 2026-09-24 | 198.03 | 198.61 | 0.29% |
| 2026-09-25 | 198.62 | 195.26 | -1.69% |
| 2026-09-26 | 195.26 | 197.11 | 0.95% |
| 2026-09-27 | 197.09 | 195.99 | -0.56% |
| 2026-09-28 | 196 | 190.94 | -2.58% |
Only 2026-09-21 and 2026-09-26 closed higher; the other six days closed lower, and the 2026-09-28 candle erased the whole week and then some, opening at 196 USDT and closing at 190.94 USDT for -2.58% on the day. The 3.46% gain on 2026-09-21, from 195.43 USDT to 202.19 USDT, was the only real push, and price never returned above 202.19 USDT afterwards. The -1.69% on 2026-09-25 and -0.56% on 2026-09-27 were slow declines, small in size but consistent in direction, and together with the 0.29% on 2026-09-24 and 0.95% on 2026-09-26 they describe a range that was consumed and then broken downward.
22 of 34 weekly samples were stronger
COINUSDT has 34 weekly samples, and 22 weeks were stronger than this one. This week's -2.58% does not rank near the top. The stronger weeks are a different order of magnitude:
| Week start | open(USDT) | close(USDT) | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026-08-17 | 149.28 | 188.36 | 26.18% |
| 2026-04-13 | 165.71 | 201.21 | 21.42% |
| 2026-06-29 | 149.07 | 174.48 | 17.05% |
| 2026-09-14 | 171.97 | 195.42 | 13.64% |
| 2026-03-02 | 175.6 | 192.51 | 9.63% |
The week of 2026-08-17 gained 26.18%, 2026-04-13 gained 21.42%, 2026-06-29 gained 17.05%, 2026-09-14 gained 13.64% and 2026-03-02 gained 9.63%. What those weeks shared was not news flow but a low starting range that repaired upward. This week started at 196 USDT, already near the 201.21 USDT close of 2026-04-13 and the 203.47 USDT close of 2026-05-04, so there was little room left. Some weeks in the same sample were weaker, such as -1.61% on 2026-03-16, -1.46% on 2026-06-15 and -0.47% on 2026-05-18. This week's -2.58% is lower than those, but against 22 stronger weeks it is simply a below-average slot, not an extreme.
What Square's popular posts say
Popular posts on Square argue that the drafted Fed payment stablecoin rules first affect sentiment around stablecoin and crypto-payment names rather than company revenue structures (relayed, not this site's view). The tickers most often mentioned are the reviewed pairs COINUSDT, MSTRUSDT, PYPLUSDT and HOODUSDT, on the reasoning that their links to payments, custody and trading channels make a clearer compliance path more likely. Other posts caution that the process from drafting to implementation is long and any wording change can be repriced, so sentiment trades often start earlier and end earlier than fundamental ones. All of this stays at the level of opinion, with no verifiable timetable or quantified impact, so treat it as a description of market mood rather than established fact.
Three things to think about before the news
First, gaps are not rare in these names. COINUSDT is a US-stock USDT-margined perpetual, anchored to expectations formed during US equity hours while the contract trades continuously, so weekend and closed-session quotes can diverge from the price when the underlying reopens. On 2026-09-28 price opened at 196 USDT and closed at 190.94 USDT; a -2.58% day like that may not let a stop fill where you wanted it.
Second, high leverage turns a weekly move into an account-level event. This week's path ran from 196 USDT to 190.94 USDT, which is -2.58% in percentage terms, but leverage changes what the same path does to margin. MSTRUSDT at -3.29% and HOODUSDT at -2.41% would be small moves in spot and are enough to force deleveraging in a leveraged contract.
Third, funding rates and the fact that the best week is always a backward-looking conclusion belong together. Funding rates move with positioning, and the longer a position is held the less negligible the accumulated cost becomes. Every "strongest week" label is computed after the fact: nobody knew about 26.18% at the start of the week of 2026-08-17, or 21.42% at the start of 2026-04-13. Treating the historical best week as a target is one of the most expensive readings available.
Fees are the part that is certain
Binance contract default maker fee is 0.02% and default taker fee is 0.05%. After a 20% rebate, the effective maker fee is 0.016% and the effective taker fee is 0.04%. Those numbers are the only fully certain thing in this piece; prices are not.
