MetaMask withdrew Lido validator nodes after a security incident, and LDO closed the week at -8.9%. In the same window, September 24 rose 13.7% and September 25 rose 12.39%, then September 28 fell 10.6%, giving back much of those two up days. For anyone watching the LDOUSDT perpetual contract, this was not a one-way week but a push higher followed by a pullback that left the weekly candle red.

Three days stand out. September 25 closed at 0.4918 USDT, the high close of the week, up 12.39% right after September 24 rose 13.7%, lifting price from around 0.3848 USDT to 0.4918 USDT in two sessions. September 28 opened at 0.4942 USDT and closed at 0.4418 USDT, down 10.6%, erasing most of the September 25 and September 27 gains in one candle. September 29 bounced to 0.4668 USDT, up 5.66%, but September 30 closed at 0.4574 USDT, down 1.99%, and October 1 closed at 0.4502 USDT, down 1.57%, so the bounce did not carry. The week ran from the September 28 open of 0.4942 USDT to the latest close of 0.4502 USDT, a weekly drop of 8.9%.

Where this week ranks in 200 weekly samples

LDOUSDT has 200 weekly samples, and 148 weeks were stronger than this one, putting the -8.9% week on the weaker side. Among the stronger weeks, some rose a lot and some fell less. Big gainers include the week of 2023-01-02 at 82.39%, 2025-08-04 at 56.89%, 2024-05-20 at 48.66%, 2025-07-14 at 42.06%, 2025-05-05 at 37.49%, 2024-11-04 at 34.61% and 2026-08-17 at 33.24%. Smaller declines include 2025-10-13 at -1.58%, 2024-04-15 at -1.2%, 2026-06-15 at -0.52% and 2026-01-05 at -0.3%. This week's -8.9% is neither the worst drop in the sample nor a resilient one; it is an ordinary weaker week among 200. The sample also shows 2026-09-21 at 17.84% and 2026-09-14 at 15.95% shortly before this week, a reminder that LDO's weekly swings are wide and one week's color can be noise.

Popular posts on the Square argue that MetaMask withdrawing Lido validator nodes after a security incident will make some people reassess Lido's staking safety and worry that changes at the validator level spread to the protocol itself (relayed, not this site's view). Other posts link the news to short-term price, saying the 10.6% drop on September 28 reflects that concern (relayed, not this site's view). A calmer group argues that validator exits are operational adjustments rather than a protocol fund safety issue, and that the move from 0.4942 USDT back to 0.4502 USDT is mostly a giveback after a fast rise (relayed, not this site's view).

Three plain truths

First, gaps and single-day drops are not new for LDO. September 28 opened at 0.4942 USDT and closed at 0.4418 USDT, down 10.6%, and that range is not extreme across 200 weekly samples; reading a long-term direction from one red candle often mistakes short-term noise for trend.

Second, perpetual contracts carry leverage, and leverage magnifies volatility, not judgment. This week saw 13.7% up on September 24, 12.39% up on September 25 and 10.6% down on September 28; those on the wrong side lose as fast as winners gain, so position sizing matters more than guessing the news.

Third, funding rates affect holding costs just like headlines. Popular posts treat the MetaMask withdrawal as a bearish reason, but the best week is a conclusion in hindsight: when the week of 2023-01-02 rose 82.39%, nobody knew in advance it was the strongest in the sample. Reviewing later shows 148 of 200 weeks were stronger, yet nobody can pick that week beforehand.
