The record and the weekly candle point different ways

MASK's market cap record is where this discussion starts, and attention has picked up. On the MASKUSDT Binance perpetual, the same stretch looks different: the week opened at 0.4935 USDT, last closed at 0.4889 USDT, a weekly move of -0.93%. Of 200 weekly samples, 102 were stronger than this one. The market cap record and the price week are two separate stories, and for contract traders only the second one settles positions.

What each day actually did

The table below carries only the daily rows from the Binance API, with nothing added.

2026-10-040.4871 USDT0.4889 USDT0.37%

Only three of the eight days closed lower, but those three carried weight. On 09-28 the price fell -6.18%, from 0.4935 USDT to 0.463 USDT, erasing the 3.01% gain from 09-27. Then 09-29 added -3.59%, closing at 0.4464 USDT, the deepest stretch of the week. The turn came on 10-02: open 0.4659 USDT, close 0.4928 USDT, a 5.77% day that pulled price back up and narrowed the weekly loss to -0.93%. Then -1.16% on 10-03 and 0.37% on 10-04 left the close at 0.4889 USDT.

Where this week sits among 200 samples

MASKUSDT has 200 weekly samples, and 102 were stronger than this week's -0.93%. A few stronger weeks, copied as they are:

2026-04-200.4642 USDT0.5632 USDT21.33%

The week of 2023-03-13 rose 93.84%, the strongest tier in the sample; 2025-05-26 rose 62.77%; 2023-01-30 rose 45.01%. More recently, 2026-08-17 rose 26.48% and 2026-04-20 rose 21.33%. Set against this week's -0.93%, the gap needs no extra words. A market cap record is a fact, but it did not turn into a strong price week.

What the Square posts say

Square posts argue that MASK's record market cap is the direct reason attention picked up, and treat the MASKUSDT contract as the main way to act on it (relayed, not this site's view). Other posts note that a market cap record is a narrative while contract price is set by the order book and funding, so the two often move apart, with this week's -0.93% as an example (relayed, not this site's view). Some single out the 5.77% day on 10-02 as a sign of short-term sentiment warming (relayed, not this site's view). These are opinions from the Square, not confirmed facts.

Three things easy to miss

First, gaps and wicks are common on MASKUSDT. On 09-28 the open was 0.4935 USDT and the close 0.463 USDT, and 09-29 closed at 0.4464 USDT. A stop placed too close gets swept; too far and it loses its purpose. That trade-off is yours to make.

Second, perpetual contracts carry leverage, and losses are amplified. When news like a market cap record appears, emotion pushes people to add size, but price does not move one way just because of a headline. This week's drop-then-recover is the example. Size positions by the volatility you can bear, not by how hot the news is.

Third, funding fees keep affecting holding costs. Carry a position overnight and you face that cost; even a correct direction can be worn down by it. As for talk of the best week, that is always a conclusion in hindsight. The 93.84% week of 2023-03-13 was only known afterward.

What the fees actually come to

The Binance contract default maker fee is 0.02% and the default taker fee is 0.05%. With a 20% rebate, the effective maker fee is 0.016% and the effective taker fee is 0.04%. The more often you trade, the more these numbers matter, so work them out before running a short-term strategy.
