Talk of China possibly allowing Alibaba and ByteDance to buy NVIDIA chips pushed the NVIDIA and semiconductor chain into focus. Among four Binance USDT-margined equity perpetuals this week, only NVDAUSDT closed up 1.8%, while BABAUSDT fell 0.89%, AMDUSDT fell 3.69% and AVGOUSDT fell 0.99%. Alibaba, the potential buyer the news points to, weakened instead. That gap matters more than the headline itself.

Three days tell most of the story. On 2026-09-21 AMDUSDT opened at 564.33 USDT and closed at 620.83 USDT, up 10.01%, the strongest single day among the four, while NVDAUSDT rose 2.18%. On 2026-09-23 the tone shifted: BABAUSDT fell from 116.98 USDT to 111.1 USDT, down 5.03%, and NVDAUSDT and AVGOUSDT also fell 1.47% and 2.94%. By 2026-09-28 NVDAUSDT moved from 224.98 USDT to 229.04 USDT, up 1.8%, while AMDUSDT dropped from 632.67 USDT to 609.35 USDT, down 3.69%. The buyer in the headline fell, the company being bought rose, and another link in the chain fell harder.
This week is not a standout in the sample
NVDAUSDT has 28 weekly samples and 11 weeks stronger than this one. The week of 2026-08-03 rose from 200.57 USDT to 224.67 USDT, up 12.02%; 2026-05-04 rose from 198.44 USDT to 215.12 USDT, up 8.41%; 2026-08-31 rose from 216.97 USDT to 231.39 USDT, up 6.65%. Against those, this week's 1.8% sits far back.
BABAUSDT has 24 weekly samples and 8 weeks stronger than this one. The week of 2026-07-06 rose from 96.97 USDT to 112.78 USDT, up 16.3%; 2026-07-27 rose from 113.96 USDT to 124.21 USDT, up 8.99%; 2026-09-14 rose from 108.88 USDT to 115.08 USDT, up 5.69%. This week BABAUSDT closed down 0.89%, the opposite direction from the week of 2026-09-14.
AMDUSDT has 22 weekly samples and 16 weeks stronger than this one. The week of 2026-09-14 rose from 497.24 USDT to 564.33 USDT, up 13.49%; 2026-09-21 rose from 564.33 USDT to 632.53 USDT, up 12.09%; 2026-05-18 rose from 419.85 USDT to 473.85 USDT, up 12.86%. This week AMDUSDT closed down 3.69% after two strong weeks. AVGOUSDT has 24 weekly samples and 14 weeks stronger than this one, with the week of 2026-05-25 rising from 421.93 USDT to 465.78 USDT, up 10.39%.
What the trending posts say
Trending posts on the Square argue that the real story in China possibly allowing Alibaba and ByteDance to buy NVIDIA chips is not NVIDIA itself, but how much compute buyers like Alibaba can secure and whether cloud growth accelerates (relayed, not the site's view). Those posts also say AMD and AVGO benefit indirectly, since any loosening in purchasing direction shifts expectations across the supply chain (relayed, not the site's view). Other posts caution that the path from discussion to implementation is long, and early contract moves do not mean the matter is settled (relayed, not the site's view). Set against this week's daily bars, the buyer contract that drew the most attention still closed lower.
Three plain facts
News-driven moves often gap at the open. On 2026-09-21 AMDUSDT opened at 564.33 USDT and closed at 620.83 USDT, a move that does not build slowly, so chasing after the fact means a different entry.
High leverage gets punished fastest in these themes. On 2026-09-23 BABAUSDT fell 5.03% in a day, and on 2026-09-28 AMDUSDT fell 3.69%; when direction runs against the headline, leverage magnifies the speed of the drawdown, not the return.
Funding is a hidden cost of holding, and the more one-sided positioning becomes, the more it stacks up. As for calling any week the best, that is always a conclusion in hindsight: nobody knew in advance which of NVDAUSDT's 11 stronger weeks or AMDUSDT's 16 stronger weeks would rank first.
Fees
Binance's default maker fee is 0.02% and default taker fee is 0.05%. After a 20% rebate, the effective maker fee is 0.016% and the effective taker fee is 0.04%. For equity perpetuals with wider swings, the maker-taker gap shows up directly in holding costs.
