SKHYNIXUSDT Falls 11.74% This Week: Only 2 of 20 Weeks Were Weaker

SKHYNIXUSDT on Binance closed this week down 11.74%, with the latest close at 1080.4 USDT. That ranks 18th out of a 20-week sample, and only 2 weeks were weaker. The move was not a slow grind: October 12 fell 5.57% and October 13 fell 6.54%, wiping out the small gains of 0.8% on October 9 and 0.85% on October 10. For anyone watching the Korean memory chip chain, the issue is not just how far one contract fell, but that several related contracts on Binance moved down together, and that synchronization is itself information.

Three days tell most of the story. On October 8 the contract fell from 1290.84 USDT to 1212.46 USDT, down 6.07%, the first candle that pulled the center of gravity lower. October 9 and October 10 then printed two small up days, with close moving from 1222.1 USDT to 1232.5 USDT, which looked like a foothold. October 12 removed that assumption: open 1224.15 USDT, close 1155.98 USDT, down 5.57%. October 13 continued from 1156 USDT to 1080.4 USDT, down 6.54%. There was almost no bounce between the two down days, suggesting selling was spread across the session rather than concentrated in one window. The -0.68% candle on October 11 looks in hindsight more like a pause before the drop than a stabilization signal.

The sample covers 20 weeks, 17 weeks were stronger than this one, and this week ranks 18th, in the back half of the sample. That rank means most weeks over the past 20 looked better than this one. Among the stronger weeks, June 8 rose 23.23%, June 15 rose 19.93%, August 10 rose 14.19%, and August 31 rose 10.96%, all clearly upward. Several stronger weeks were down, including June 22 at -5.09%, June 29 at -8.34%, July 6 at -10.89%, August 3 at -10%, and October 5 at -11.35%; they fell less than this week, so they still count as stronger. The fact pack does not list specific weaker weeks, only that 2 weeks were weaker. Put together, this week sits in the lower tier of the sample rather than the middle.

Popular posts in the Square argue that the weakness in SKHYNIXUSDT and the 7.1% drop in SK Hynix shares are two sides of the same event (relayed, not the site's view). Those posts focus on the linkage across Korean memory chips and the semiconductor chain, arguing that one contract's decline is only the surface and that the real question is whether several contracts in the same chain weaken together. On that reading, SKHYUSDT fell 10.8% this week, EWYUSDT fell 8.81%, and KORUUSDT fell 25.22%, all in the same direction but with different magnitudes. The posts also note that KORUUSDT swings much more widely and should be treated separately from SKHYNIXUSDT, rather than using one contract's decline to infer how another will move. These are market participants' views, not verified conclusions.

Three plain facts

First, gaps and consecutive down candles are different things. On October 12 the open was 1224.15 USDT and on October 13 the open was 1156 USDT, a clear gap between the two opening prices; anyone holding overnight faced a new price range at the open rather than intraday movement. Second, high leverage magnifies that gap. Futures trading carries leverage, and when prices weaken in sequence, margin pressure arrives faster than in spot, and losses accumulate faster when the direction is wrong; position size decides the outcome earlier than the directional call. Third, funding and effective fees are costs faced every day. The default maker fee is 0.02% and the default taker fee is 0.05%; after the 20% rebate, the effective maker fee is 0.016% and the effective taker fee is 0.04%. These numbers look small, but they accumulate with repeated entries and overnight holds. As for calling any week the best week, that is a conclusion reached in hindsight; the week of June 8 rose 23.23%, and nobody knew in advance it would become a stronger week.

How the fees work

The default maker fee on Binance futures is 0.02%, and the default taker fee is 0.05%. The rebate ratio is 20%, and after the rebate the effective maker fee is 0.016% and the effective taker fee is 0.04%. At this tier, a maker fill costs 0.016% and a taker fill costs 0.04%, with the difference coming from the default fee gap between maker and taker orders.
