A 10.33% Weekly Drop Puts SOL in the Back Half of 200 Weeks
SOLUSDT opened the week at 121.54 USDT and closed at 108.99 USDT, a decline of 10.33%. Against a 200-week sample, that ranks 174th, placing it in the back half of the sample. Meanwhile, the square is discussing Solana cutting block time to 200 milliseconds, with network performance expectations coming up repeatedly. Price and narrative moved in opposite directions this week.
How Each Day Played Out
| Date | Open | Close | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026-10-02 | 118.34 USDT | 118.56 USDT | 0.19% |
| 2026-10-03 | 118.56 USDT | 119.55 USDT | 0.84% |
| 2026-10-04 | 119.54 USDT | 121.54 USDT | 1.67% |
| 2026-10-05 | 121.54 USDT | 120.72 USDT | -0.67% |
| 2026-10-06 | 120.72 USDT | 120.65 USDT | -0.06% |
| 2026-10-07 | 120.66 USDT | 116.24 USDT | -3.66% |
| 2026-10-08 | 116.24 USDT | 109.57 USDT | -5.74% |
| 2026-10-09 | 109.56 USDT | 108.99 USDT | -0.52% |
The week started at 121.54 USDT on October 5 and ended at 108.99 USDT on October 9. Two days did the damage: October 7 fell from 120.66 USDT to 116.24 USDT, down 3.66%; October 8 fell from 116.24 USDT to 109.57 USDT, down 5.74%. Together they erased the gains from the first three days and then some. October 9 slipped only 0.52% to 108.99 USDT, narrowing the decline without changing direction.
The first three days were not bad. October 2 rose 0.19%, October 3 rose 0.84%, October 4 rose 1.67%, moving from 118.34 USDT to 121.54 USDT. October 5 fell 0.67% and October 6 fell 0.06%, barely moving. The turn came on October 7, after which two consecutive sessions pushed the weekly candle from a mild uptrend into a one-way decline.
Ranked 174th Out of 200 Weeks
The SOLUSDT weekly sample has 200 weeks. The number of weeks stronger than this one is 173, placing this week at rank 174, in the back half of the sample. This was not a minor pullback; it sits on the weaker side of the distribution.
The stronger weeks point in different directions. The week of 2023-01-09 ran from 14.464 USDT to 22.903 USDT, up 58.34%; 2023-12-18 ran from 70.902 USDT to 112.571 USDT, up 58.77%; 2024-03-11 ran from 144.501 USDT to 201.962 USDT, up 39.77%. Those are strong weeks to the upside.
Some down weeks came close to this one but fell slightly less. The week of 2023-01-30 fell from 26.09 USDT to 23.464 USDT, down 10.07%; 2023-08-14 fell from 24.217 USDT to 21.76 USDT, down 10.15%; 2024-07-01 fell from 146.582 USDT to 131.599 USDT, down 10.22%; 2025-05-26 fell from 175.64 USDT to 157.62 USDT, down 10.26%. Each of those declines is smaller than this week's 10.33%, so they rank as stronger. The week of 2022-12-12 fell from 13.407 USDT to 12.369 USDT, down 7.74%; 2022-12-19 fell from 12.37 USDT to 11.373 USDT, down 8.06%, both milder than this week.
Being in the back half means one thing: across 200 weeks of SOLUSDT history, many weeks fell less than this one and some fell more, but this week clearly sits on the weaker side.
What the Square's Popular Posts Are Saying
Popular posts on the square argue that Solana cutting block time to 200 milliseconds is a substantive step forward for network performance, and that faster blocks mean shorter confirmation and higher throughput, a positive expectation for on-chain trading experience and ecosystem activity, and therefore bullish for SOL (paraphrased, not this site's view).
Other posts caution that performance upgrades take time from proposal to deployment, passing through testnet validation and mainnet rollout, so price does not necessarily follow the news cadence. This week's daily candles are a case in point: the news circulated while price fell.
To be clear, these are paraphrases of opinions on the square, not established facts, and not this site's position. Whether the upgrade proceeds as expected and how the market prices it afterward are both unknown. Treating a narrative as a reason to buy and treating it as a clue to watch are two different things.
Three Honest Points
Gaps deserve a separate mention. October 7 opened at 120.66 USDT and October 8 opened at 116.24 USDT, a continuous downward shift with no obvious upward gap. Conversely, October 8 dropped straight from 116.24 USDT to 109.57 USDT, meaning anyone entering that day had almost no comfortable exit. Daily-level sharp declines rarely give reaction time; by the time you see it, the move is done.
Leverage amplifies the experience this week. The weekly decline was 10.33%, and with high leverage account swings run far larger than that number, while the October 7 and October 8 candles came back to back with no bounce window. Leverage does not change direction; it changes whether you are still in the market before direction plays out. Position size determines whether you can wait for next week, not how much you make this week.
Funding fees are another easily overlooked item. Perpetual contracts settle funding periodically between longs and shorts. In sideways markets the cost is invisible; in one-way declines the holding experience deteriorates noticeably. As for "the best week is a conclusion in hindsight" โ the 58.34% week of 2023-01-09 and the 58.77% week of 2023-12-18 are numbers picked from the sample after the fact. Nobody knew how those weeks would turn out at the time. Using the strongest historical week to project the next one does not hold up logically.
How Fees Work
Binance contract default maker fee is 0.02%, default taker fee is 0.05%. The rebate ratio is 20%. After the rebate, the effective maker fee is 0.016% and the effective taker fee is 0.04%.

Correction (2026-10-10): an earlier version called four down weeks steeper than this week, although each of them fell less than this week's 10.33%; this has been corrected.
