The Grayscale advisor portfolio holds 26.11% in XRP, and in the same week Binance XRPUSDT perpetual moved from 1.4098 USDT to 1.5156 USDT, a 7.5% weekly gain. Three numbers line up in one week: an institutional allocation signal and contract market sentiment.
How the week actually traded
| Date | open | close | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026-09-15 | 1.4229 USDT | 1.2826 USDT | -9.86% |
| 2026-09-16 | 1.2825 USDT | 1.2987 USDT | 1.26% |
| 2026-09-17 | 1.2987 USDT | 1.2954 USDT | -0.25% |
| 2026-09-18 | 1.2954 USDT | 1.3964 USDT | 7.8% |
| 2026-09-19 | 1.3965 USDT | 1.4104 USDT | 1% |
| 2026-09-20 | 1.4103 USDT | 1.4099 USDT | -0.03% |
| 2026-09-21 | 1.4098 USDT | 1.5362 USDT | 8.97% |
| 2026-09-22 | 1.5362 USDT | 1.5156 USDT | -1.34% |
The week did not move in a straight line. September 15 opened at 1.4229 USDT and closed at 1.2826 USDT, a -9.86% drop that gave back a large part of the prior week. The recovery came on September 18, from 1.2954 USDT to 1.3964 USDT for 7.8%, and September 21, from 1.4098 USDT to 1.5362 USDT for 8.97%. The other four sessions barely moved: 1.26%, -0.25%, 1%, and -0.03%. September 22 closed at 1.5156 USDT, down 1.34%. The 7.5% weekly result came from a dip-then-rally structure, not a one-way climb.
Where this week ranks in 200 weeks
XRPUSDT has 200 weekly samples, and 33 weeks were stronger than this one. That places the week near the top of the sample, but clearly below the strongest weeks.
| Stronger week | open | close | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2024-11-11 | 0.5888 USDT | 1.055 USDT | 79.18% |
| 2024-11-25 | 1.4335 USDT | 2.2942 USDT | 60.04% |
| 2023-07-10 | 0.4678 USDT | 0.7463 USDT | 59.53% |
| 2026-08-17 | 0.9929 USDT | 1.52 USDT | 53.09% |
| 2024-11-18 | 1.0551 USDT | 1.4334 USDT | 35.85% |
The week of November 11, 2024 rose 79.18%, the strongest in the sample; November 25, 2024 rose 60.04%. July 10, 2023 rose 59.53%, August 17, 2026 rose 53.09%, and November 18, 2024 rose 35.85%. Each closed well above its open, several times this week's 7.5%. Put side by side, 7.5% is strong among 200 weeks, but the ceiling for strong weeks is far higher.
What the Square post says
A popular Square post argues that XRP at 26.11% of the Grayscale advisor portfolio is an institutional allocation signal worth watching and may lift XRP contract sentiment (relayed, not this site's view). The post uses 26.11% as its starting point and says weight changes in institutional portfolios get amplified by contract markets. Replies note that this week's 7.5% gain and the 8.97% single-day move on September 21 sit close in time to that signal, and sentiment did react. These remain market participants' views, not settled conclusions.
Three things easy to miss
First, gaps are real in contracts. September 15 went from open 1.4229 USDT to close 1.2826 USDT, a -9.86% day; if you entered near the prior close, you were already underwater at the open and your stop may not fill where you wanted. Second, high leverage magnifies such daily swings beyond what most can hold; the 8.97% rally on September 21 and the -1.34% giveback on September 22 produced very different outcomes for opposite sides, and position size decides whether you stay in the game before direction does. Third, funding grinds on flat days: 1.26%, -0.25%, 1%, and -0.03% across four sessions with almost no price movement, while holding costs kept running. Many lose to waiting, not to direction. And the best week is a conclusion in hindsight: the 79.18% week of November 11, 2024 was not known to close there at the time, and using it as a reference afterward is a different thing from deciding in the market then.
Fees in plain numbers
Binance contract default maker fee is 0.02% and default taker fee is 0.05%. The rebate ratio is 20%, so the effective maker fee after rebate is 0.016% and the effective taker fee after rebate is 0.04%. At this tier, frequent entries and exits over a week will eat into volatility gains, especially during the narrow range from September 16 to September 20.
