A 7.46% weekly drop that the ledger fix did not stop
XRPUSDT moved from 1.5201 USDT to 1.4067 USDT this week, a decline of 7.46%. That ranks 175th out of 200 weekly samples, placing it in the back half of the sample. At the same time, the most discussed topic was a fix to a vulnerability in the XRP ledger that could have allowed XRP issuance. The two events landing together highlights an old problem: on-chain security news and price sentiment rarely move in sync.
How each day actually traded
| Date | Open | Close | Change |

| 2026-10-03 | 1.484 USDT | 1.4855 USDT | 0.1% |
| 2026-10-04 | 1.4856 USDT | 1.5201 USDT | 2.32% |
| 2026-10-05 | 1.5201 USDT | 1.5072 USDT | -0.85% |
| 2026-10-06 | 1.5071 USDT | 1.4961 USDT | -0.73% |

| 2026-10-10 | 1.395 USDT | 1.4067 USDT | 0.84% |
Only two days set the direction. On 10-07 price fell from 1.496 USDT to 1.4204 USDT, down 5.05%; on 10-08 it fell from 1.4203 USDT to 1.3793 USDT, down 2.89%. Together they erased the 2.32% gain from 10-04. On 10-09 and 10-10 price rose 1.12% and 0.84%, recovering from 1.3794 USDT to 1.4067 USDT, but never back to the 1.5201 USDT seen on 10-05. In other words, the fix news arrived after price had already weakened, not before.

| 2023-01-09 | 0.345 USDT | 0.3845 USDT | 11.45% |
| 2023-03-20 | 0.386 USDT | 0.4477 USDT | 15.98% |

| 2026-08-17 | 0.9929 USDT | 1.52 USDT | 53.09% |
Of the 200 weekly samples, 174 were stronger than this week, which ranks 175th and sits in the back half of the sample. The rows above are the standout stronger weeks: 2024-11-11 rose from 0.5888 USDT to 1.055 USDT, up 79.18%; 2024-11-25 rose from 1.4335 USDT to 2.2942 USDT, up 60.04%; 2023-07-10 rose from 0.4678 USDT to 0.7463 USDT, up 59.53%; 2026-08-17 rose from 0.9929 USDT to 1.52 USDT, up 53.09%. Put this week's 1.5201 USDT to 1.4067 USDT next to those and the gap needs no explanation.
What the trending posts are saying
Trending posts argue that the ledger fix closed a vulnerability that could have allowed XRP issuance, with discussion centered on whether supply expectations change as a result (relayed, not the view of this site). Some tie the words "could issue" directly to sell pressure, while others read the fix itself as positive because it shows the ledger is being maintained. Both readings stay at the level of inference, and the posts offer no verifiable supply data. Price gave a more direct answer: down 7.46% this week, with 10-07 and 10-08 both weaker. News talks about what might happen later; candles talk about what already happened. They operate on different time scales.
Three blunt points
First, a gap and a grind are different things. On 10-07 price went from 1.496 USDT to 1.4204 USDT, and on 10-08 from 1.4203 USDT to 1.3793 USDT. Both opens sat right against the prior close, leaving no obvious gap, which means selling was released continuously rather than in one event. That pattern tends to wear traders down more than a single sharp drop.
Second, high leverage turns a slow variable like a vulnerability fix into a fast one. The news itself does not change same-day volume, but it shifts the expectations of holders, and the higher the leverage, the more urgent the closing moves that follow. The last two days rose 1.12% and 0.84%, yet price at 1.4067 USDT is still away from the 1.5201 USDT of 10-05.
Third, funding rates have no direct link to on-chain news. Funding reflects which side is paying, and this week's weakness means shorts held the advantage over this stretch. As for calling any week the "best week," that is always a conclusion reached in hindsight โ when 2024-11-11 rose 79.18%, nobody knew at the time it would mark a high point in the sample.
Fees, briefly
The default maker fee on Binance futures is 0.02% and the default taker fee is 0.05%. After a 20% rebate, the effective maker fee is 0.016% and the effective taker fee is 0.04%. These numbers have nothing to do with price direction, but every open and close is charged at this standard, and short-term traders should factor it into cost.
