Hot News, Cold Tape

The Winklevoss filing for a spot Zcash ETF with the US SEC has pushed privacy-coin compliance back into the conversation, and ZECUSDT is drawing more attention because of it. For the week ending 2026-10-07, the Binance ZECUSDT perpetual closed at 1319.43 USDT, with a weekly change of -2.39% and a decline of 2.39%. The headline heat did not translate into price strength, and that gap is the first thing worth noting. For contract traders, it means narrative and actual positioning are still two separate things to judge.

What Each Day Actually Did

Laying out the daily candles from 2026-09-30 to 2026-10-07 makes the -2.39% weekly figure easier to read.

2026-10-071366.04 USDT1319.43 USDT-3.41%

Three days tell the story. On 10-01, price fell from 1438.1 USDT to 1335.45 USDT, a single-day -7.14%, the heaviest red candle of the week, wiping out the 1.51% gain from 09-30 and then some. On 10-04, price rose from 1304.93 USDT to 1351.78 USDT, up 3.59%, the strongest bounce of the week, but it did not reverse the trend. By 10-07, open 1366.04 USDT and close 1319.43 USDT, down 3.41%, pressing the 2.16% gain from 10-06 back down. Across the week there were four up days and four down days, but the losses clustered on 10-01 and 10-07, leaving the weekly candle negative. That structure suggests no sustained one-way buying after the news, just back-and-forth.

Where This Week Sits in 200 Weeks

The ZECUSDT weekly sample has 200 weeks. There are 116 weeks stronger than this one, and this week ranks 117th out of 200 including itself, placing it in the latter half of the sample. In other words, this week is not a standout; most weeks were stronger.

A few earlier rows from the fact pack make the contrast concrete. The week of 2023-01-02 ran from 37.23 USDT to 42.75 USDT, up 14.83%; 2023-06-19 ran from 25.73 USDT to 30.49 USDT, up 18.5%; 2024-02-12 ran from 20.34 USDT to 25.69 USDT, up 26.3%; 2024-07-08 ran from 18.66 USDT to 29.34 USDT, up 57.23%; 2025-09-29 ran from 61.02 USDT to 165.26 USDT, up 170.83%; 2025-10-06 ran from 165.26 USDT to 260.38 USDT, up 57.56%. All of those gains are clearly above this week, and the price ranges are on a different scale. Closer in, 2026-08-17 ran from 486.02 USDT to 853.69 USDT, up 75.65%; 2026-08-31 ran from 834.63 USDT to 1226.76 USDT, up 46.98%; 2026-09-14 ran from 1062.13 USDT to 1508.75 USDT, up 42.05%. Put side by side, no outside conclusion is needed about where -2.39% stands.

What Square Posts Are Saying

Square posts argue that the Winklevoss spot Zcash ETF filing with the US SEC is an attempt to move a privacy coin toward mainstream compliance, and that if such a product clears, ZEC's audience could extend beyond its original circle (relayed, not this site's view). Some posts read the filing alongside recent ZECUSDT swings, noting the news is topical but the tape did not immediately respond in the same direction, instead dropping notably on 10-01 and 10-07. Others caution that an ETF filing has many steps between submission and outcome, with an uncertain timeline, so treating it as a short-term price driver carries real risk. These are Square discussions, not established facts, and readers should separate the news from the expectations.

Three Things Worth Stating Plainly

First, news and price are two different lines. An ETF filing is a process event; submission is only the start, followed by review, feedback, and possible delays, any of which can change the pace. This week's close at 1319.43 USDT, down 2.39%, is a live example of headline heat not turning into buying.

Second, gaps and high leverage amplify moves in contracts. A single-day -7.14% on 10-01 and -3.41% on 10-07 is a pullback in spot terms, but something else entirely in a leveraged position. Position size always decides whether you stay in the game earlier than direction does.

Third, funding rates and holding costs are a continuous drain. Perpetuals are not like spot where holding is enough; both sides pay to hold, and the longer the chop, the more visible that cost. Many only watch the percentage change and forget that time is being priced too.

One more point: the "best week" is always a conclusion in hindsight. The week of 2025-09-29 rose 170.83%, but people inside it likely did not know where they stood until later. Using completed weekly candles to infer the next week does not hold up logically.

Fees, Calculated at the Default Tier

The Binance contract default maker fee is 0.02%, and the default taker fee is 0.05%. After a 20% rebate, the effective maker fee is 0.016%, and the effective taker fee is 0.04%. These three figures are fixed; checking them against your order type before trading beats reviewing statements afterward.
