What Is a Crypto Exchange Rebate? How Referral Codes Cut Your Fees — and Why It Has to Happen at Signup

One-line answer: A rebate is the exchange returning part of the trading fee it collected from you. It's the exchanges' official referral program, not a grey-area trick: attach a rebate code when you register and a share of every future fee comes back to you, permanently. There is exactly one thing to get right: attach it at the moment of signup — most exchanges won't let you add it later, or only under strict conditions. Rebate shares here are checked as of 2026年9月2日; this site syncs official rates daily.

Where the money flows (30 seconds)

  1. You trade; the exchange charges a fee (e.g. Binance futures taker 0.05%);
  2. You registered through someone's referral code → the exchange shares part of that fee with the referrer (this is the exchange's official affiliate program);
  3. The referrer passes part of that share back to you → your effective fee drops.

Binance example: standard futures taker 0.05%, effective via a rebate route 0.04% (rebate 20%). The money comes out of the exchange's affiliate budget, not out of you — with or without a code, the exchange charges you the same rate; the only difference is whether part of it comes back.

How much per year: an example at current rates

Suppose you trade 2,000,000 USDT of futures (taker) in a year. Approximate fees actually paid:

2M USDT/year futures taker volume — fees actually paid (USDT, lower is better)Binance (after rebate)800 USDTOKX (after rebate)800 USDTGate (after rebate)800 USDTBybit (after rebate)880 USDTHyperliquid (no rebate, lower base rate)900 USDTBitget (after rebate)960 USDTWithout a code on Binance you pay 1,000; with one, 800 — 200 USDT a year, permanentlyExample at 2026-09-02 default-tier rates and user-side rebate shares; your tier and maker ratio change the numbers

The comparison result: on the same exchange, code vs no code is roughly 200 USDT a year at 2M volume; more volume, more difference — and it's money saved every year with zero effort. Attaching the code is a one-time action with a permanent payoff, which is why the moment of signup matters so much.

Why it must happen at signup: rebind rules by exchange

This is the most important section. The referral relationship is bound at registration, and adding one afterwards works differently everywhere:

ExchangeCan you attach a code after signup?
BinanceOnly via three official channels (new account unused for 30 days / dormant 90 days with zero activity / low-volume account that then hits a volume target) — strict conditions
BybitWithin 14 days of signup on the official rebind page
OKXEssentially no; the only exception is a dormant-account recall after 180 days of zero activity
GateNo
Bitget / HyperliquidPer each exchange's current official rules

So the correct order is: get the code or signup link from this site first → then register at the exchange. Reverse it and you most likely can't recover. If you already have an account, check the table for eligibility — and do not close and re-register to chase a rebate: exchanges explicitly forbid it and revoke rebate eligibility when caught.

How to confirm the code took

After signup, open your account's referral page (Binance: "Referral"; OKX: "Invite friends"; Bybit: "Referral Program"). If it shows "my referrer" or a bound code, you're set. If not, the code wasn't attached at signup — use the rebind table above.

Three traps to avoid

1. "Higher than the cap" rebates — where does the money come from? Each exchange caps the user-side rebate (table above). Anyone offering "50%, 70%" is either subsidizing you out of their own share (a self-funded pool / off-platform cash-back — a terms violation at most exchanges, penalized on both sides when caught) or won't deliver. Only rebates settled through the exchange's official program are ones you can count on long-term.

2. Fake domains. If a referral link points at a look-alike exchange domain, what you type in is your login. The only test that works: check whether the registered domain is the exchange's official one. We wrote a dedicated guide: How to spot fake Binance domains.

3. Assuming rebates cover funding. Rebates apply to trading fees only — funding rate, spread and slippage are outside their reach, and for futures beginners those often cost more than fees. See How exchange fees actually work.

FAQ

Q: Does the exchange charge me more if I use a code? No. Your rate is unchanged; the rebate comes out of the referrer's share.

Q: When is the rebate paid? Varies by exchange — typically daily or weekly into your account; check the "rebate / referral rewards" page.

Q: Does a rebate affect my VIP tier? No. Tiers depend on your volume, not on rebates.

Q: Where do I get a code? Our rebate entry points by exchange list each exchange's current code and official signup link, filtered by what's available in your region.

Rebate shares follow each exchange's official affiliate rules; this is not investment advice.
